Re: Attenion parents of school age kids(i would say 6th grade and up) did you hear about this
this is the message on William Floyd's website:
"We have become aware that there are rumors circulating among students about the possibility of violence in schools throughout Long Island on Tuesday June 6, 2006. These rumors have been generated by the publicity surrounding the release of a movie that warns people to watch out for 6-6-06, Tuesday’s date. The rumors have spread quickly among our students through the use of the internet and text messaging.
We are calling to assure you that our schools will be as safe for your child on Tuesday as they are on any other day of the year. Administrators, staff and security have been alerted and will take extra precautions to protect our students from any threats to their health and safety. There will be zero tolerance for any behavior that threatens the well-being of our students. Extra security will be on site. Our schools will remain in lockout - meaning that there will be no unauthorized entry into our schools. The Seventh Precinct of the Suffolk County Police Department has also been alerted as a precautionary measure.
We intend for your child to have a productive day at school. If you have any questions or concerns about this matter, please call your child’s Principal."

their defintion of lock-down is pretty bad - there should NEVER be unauthorized entry into school .
I would not leave my child home, especially so close to finals, IMO.

jen, with all that has been going on latly in all the districts, kids act off movies. and games more then you know. there have been alot of things that happen and districts are very good at covering them up. i wish it was not true that this would never happen but it does. i know alot of kids from working at the day camp and at the school and i can say that i would not be shocked if there was not one problem to arise on that date.

well i would be....our SD is having a dance that night... so there is no "lock down" here
and if the kids in your SD act out because of movies...then that is pretty damn scary...
that everytime a movie comes out school is closed....
  sad...

I teach 7th grade and I can honestly tell you, this time of year - schools have zero tolerance for anything. Sure, they are kids and have less than 2 weeks of school left - they are going to try to do stupid stuff.
Plus, doesn't the movie come out on 6/6/06?? How the heck are the kids going to do anything that day if they haven't seen it yet??

jenn also unless you have children in a school you might not get a notice like this, and theyy do not allow any unauthorized access to our school but they just want to make sure for those parents that might flip out to understand it will be even harder to get a child in or out of school. when we go on lock down they mean that only the parent is allowed to pick up that child and no one else. all the entrance ways will have someone there at all times, and an aid or teacher at eash hallway. when i worked there there was a lock down due to a bank robbery in the area and this is what happened!

the heightened security to some might seem like a good thing...

to me, itis pretty sad part of reality i guess...

I have never heard of any SD's by me having any lockdowns...

I never received anything like this from Half Hollow Hills but I take their emails so seriously that if they WERE to send something like that out, I would think about letting the kids stay home. ( point being I would be shocked to recieve this as an email)
