What kind of bug is this?
Does anyone know what kind of bug this is? They are outside my house when it's warm but when it gets colder they come in
They fly and they crunch when you squish them!
They are gross and really creep me out, not sure how to get rid of them if I don't know what they are

Re: What kind of bug is this?
I'd like to know as well! I've seen them outdoors and caught a few in the house as well.
BTW, thanks for the pic! I was trying to explain them to my DH and he thought I was crazy!

Thanks for the responses, I think I may take the pic to the garden center at home depot or lowes and see if someone can ID them for me

They just fly, but not even that much. Most of the time they are just sitting still and very slow moving.

Re: What kind of bug is this?
Here was my mom's response. If you want her info, FM me and I can send you the company and phone number she works for.
hard to tell exactly but it appears to be a beetle of some sort. outside insect primarily but of course as the weather gets colder they will try to come in for food, etc. for exact identification, would need to take or send to either an entomologist, a pest control company or to cooperative extension in her area. they will do analysis for no charge. to find cooperative extension in her area, check yellow pages or if not listed, she can ask the environmental protection agency (EPA) in her state.
if she lives in New York, EPA is located in Stony Brook and Cooperative Extension is located in Riverhead.

Re: What kind of bug is this?
Thanks again everyone, I think I found it. I have been searching for an answer for weeks and this is what I've come up with, it is a leaf-footed bug.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find out how to get rid of them

I don't think that's it. I don't know about your bugs, but ours are grayish in color and the wings are jagged/serrated looking.
