What is your ideal birth??
Last night we took dinner to a friend who had her baby last week and she had a vaginal birth. My friend Karri was over as well and she recently had a C-section. They were comparing "battle wounds" and trying to figure out which was easier to recover from.
Just from listening to them talk, it almost seemed like the C-Section was easier -- no hemroids, episiotomy recovery, vaginal swelling, etc...
What would be your preference?

Re: What is your ideal birth??
I really want to do a vaginal with no drugs. The scariest part for me is the epi for 2 main reasons. I'm terrified of not being able to move or feel my legs. i freak at the loss of control that way. Second, I have had major spinal surgery and my spine is fused from T5 to L3. My spinal doctor says that an epi can be done on me, but that the person doing it might be nervous and it might be much harder to do on me because there is really no space between the vertebrae. But, it looks like I might have to have a c-section, and I really don't want general cause then I would miss my being born, and I want to hear that first cry so bad. So, I will have to deal with the epi.

Re: What is your ideal birth??
Ideal - would be no pain and no drugs! but since those do not go hand in hand.....
I am nervous for the epi only bc it scares me. So I really wanted no drugs but have a feeling I will have one. I really dont know what to expect pain wise.
I am obsessed with watching a baby story and what I see - the woman with the epi have ok births, nice and quiet and just push the baby out. The woman without the epi's are screaming like the devil!

How come 'quick and painless' isn't a poll option????

Neither is having the baby "beamed up". So much for my Vulcan up-bringing.

Me too! I love Baby Story, listening to people's real life experiences and LIF's birth stories. I can't get enough of them!
I know we have no control over our births but I want to know as much as possible so I make the right choices to be one of those "nice and quiet and just push the baby out" mommies!

DH flat out told me he would mock me senseless if I screamed - and I know he would. Epidural for me.
Most of the "A Baby Story"'s have been filmed in the NY/NJ area. My favorites are the ones from Brooklyn where the women are cursing like sailors with the thick NY accent and lots of bleeps.

Ideally - vaginal with no drugs. I am doubtful this will happen. But I can live in my ideal word for now!
