What is up with Disney/Pixar and Death??

Dd who is almost 3 is watching Big Hero 6 and Betamax just drifted away. She asked where did Betamax go?

She is still traumatized about Bing Bong from Inside Out and Bing Bong going bye bye.

She got super excited when Betamax came back and she just said "he came back, not like Bing Bong.

Damn Disney!

We read all the princess books to dd. Snow White, aurora. They all say they're going to die. A little dramatic for a 2 1/5 year old.

Death in every movie. Most are based on fairy tales. The newer ones still deal with loss.

The story is walt disney lost his parents tragically when he was young. So thats why most stories the main characters parents die and they overcome it and achieve greatness.

I agree i dont like explaining death or the word die to my 3.5 year old.

We just watched the Good Dinosaur last week and it was such a serious, emotional movie. Definitely not what I was expecting, but it was really good.

Re: What is up with Disney/Pixar and Death??

Wasn't Walt at least a grown man when his dad died? I didn't think he was very young. His dad was a stern man, which is why he and his brother left home when they could. At least, according to the film at dhs!

Most fairy tales and myths feature the loss of a parent; this is found across cultures, across time. And the Hero usually goes on a journey. And usually gets a scar. That's the extent of my memory on the unit in 12th grade English! Star Wars fits the mold as well.

I think I cry or get teary eyed with every disney movie we watch. I will never watch Bambi, dumbo or Pinocchio. Those were extremely disturbing.

Good dinosaur was really good. Dd loves it.

Before my dd was even 2 my mom put dumbo on for her and she was sobbing crying when they whip the mom with chains and take the baby away. She forgot about that part. Even finding memo I start it after the mom goes missing. I hate the Disney movies. Too bad my dd loves all the princesses. I prefer peppa or Dora where no one dies and they do math.

What is up with Disney/Pixar and Death??

Disney movies have ALWAYS dealt with death. Rarely is there ever a princess with both parents alive (if any)

I think it's just normal.

We were watching Charlotte's Web (original) and we both looked at each other and realized as kids death was just part of life not to be sheltered from. Bad egg from mama goose wasn't mourned over, she simply gave it to Templeton to eat or discard with no real emotion.

I never shelter my kiddo from death. It happens. ALL THE TIME. More so because my Father died. It's very real. Guns are real and they both protect you and can kill you. Death can't be kissed away or fixed. You don't play with guns or fire. We don't shield her from death and we make her understand it's very final. It's a lesson I think some of these punks these days should have learned instead of video games were it's just bang bang, no big deal and gangs who don't think of the families behind the deaths.

But Inside Out was plain TWISTED!

We don't shield her either. She has already been to 4 funerals. I think it just broke my heart because she seems to now get it. Bing Bong was twisted, I so agree

My daughter is 4 and refuses to watch ANY Disney Princess movies because they start happy, get sad, then have a happy ending and she cried happy. She hates the sad parts, and crying happy at the end. She refuses to watch them LOL

Yep!! Even now as an adult the thought of having to watch them makes me extremely upset.

And I remember a few disney movies being downright scary to a little kid. The Little Mermaid still makes me uncomfortable.

Yeah that it where I tell DD Nemo's Mommy is, on vacation!
I can't take these movies. I go through them looking for one that isn't violent or has death or sadness and there's nothing left.
I even tried a nature show about moose one night and the damn baby moose died which resulted in hysterics! I give up Chat Icon
