What is THIS supposed to mean???

Being that today is my last day at this job, I got an e-mail today from a co-worker:

"Thank you Katie. You have been exceptional to work with. Even with all the bad things people say when someone "good" leaves the company...you will be missed. Good luck with everything! Keep in touch."

Was that intended to be nice and just didn't come across that way - or is it just me?



ETA: I get a long with this guy great - he is very nice. But what ARE people saying??

I think she meant it in a nice way, but it came out wrong. At least that's my take. try not to let it bother you.

That's what I call a back-handed compliment.

When is your last day? I wouldn't even SPEAK to people there. When I quit my last job I was completely blackballed.

It means people were talking sh!t about you and she wanted to tell you that you will be missed.

I think she has her head up her butt big time. Who puts crap like that in writing? Just say you'll be missed and leave it at that.

Maybe everyone talks sh!t after someone leaves, and he figures you know that, so he thinks maybe you'll wonder if people will talk sh!t about you, so he wanted to assure you that everyone liked you there?

I agree, it is a weird type of goodbye email to send!!!

I wouldnt call that a compliment at all. Or is the person who sent it to you dumb as rocks? That email is nasty for a few reasons - why even reference bad things being said? If they really wanted to wish you well, just say so and leave out the part about bad things being said - I mean, why be a sh*t stirrer?? Then the use of "good" - unless this person doesn't understand using quotation marks in this fashion is considered sarcastic, they are actually being really nasty. I'm not sure what I'd do if I received that email....probably not give them the satisfaction either way of replying.... how immature is this person, or just plain dumb, I can't tell without knowing them.

i don't think this person was trying to be mean, esp if you say it is someone with whome you get along great.

my guess is that they thought youw ere aware that people were saying stuff - and were trying to make you feel better! sometimes people just don't think unfortunately.

i wouldn't reply via email - i would talk to your firend and would say something along the lines of "thanks for your note. i've enjoyed working with you too and will definitely k.i.t (if you plan to), but, i must say i was disappointed to hear that bad things are being said about me."

If you get along so great with this guy then I wouldn't hesitate to ask in a light-hearted way, what he meant in his email.

I don't think it was meant as an insult. As a guy, when people leave the company, all of the guys remind the person leaving that for the next several months, anything that goes wrong is "their" fault, even if they weren't involved, or the problem started after they left. I think it was meant as good-natured office ribbing. It doesn't come across that well in an email, however.

i think he meant that people say things when 'good' ppl leave meaning like that they are saying "that sucks she is leaving"

i honestly dont think he meant any harm.

and i know this may sound dumb, but guys arent normally "catty" so i honestly think he meant it nicely.

if he didnt like you he wouldnt have asked you to kit. jmo
