Re: What is the going rate for babysitting?

i have two kids, i pay my sitter $10 an hour and even if i go 10 min over an hour i will pay her for the full hour.

my sitter is cheap for us, because she is my SILs niece.

when i was pricing college kids for a sitter they were asking between $20-$25 an hour for 2 kids (one is Autistic though)

i think age plays a huge role in pricing as well....

Thank you so much for replying!
Can I ask your opinion?

I know it is very difficult for people to find and (pay for) babysitters. So, I was thinking of the following ...

I am a certified public school special ed./general ed. teacher looking for part-time work. I've looked for tutoring/babysitting jobs ... I was thinking of offering group babysitting plans (In my home) for Friday and Saturday nights from 6-11. $20-$30 for 5-6 hours. Figure its affordable and I am highly qualified for this. Perhaps, it will give more opportunities for people to go out with their DHs, friends, wives. Incentive for a date night!

I would babysit 5 children max (school age)

We would watch movies, have snack, play games, etc.

Do you think this would be needed?

Re: What is the going rate for babysitting?

Two kids ages 2 and 4. I pay $10 per hour to my neighbor's daughter and give an extra $5 as a tip.

ETA: After reading your follow up it almost sounds like day care not a baby sitter for a random Friday night date. I would look into needing to be licensed. At least in NJ I think that you would need to be licensed to have that many children when they are not all related to one another at the same time. I know that the max in NJ is 5 kids to one in home provider at a time as my neighbor has a licensed day care center in her house.

I pay $15/hour. My girl told me she usually asks 12-15, 15 if two kids.
I give her 15 since she takes care of my DD and my dog.

Thank you for your reply. It is pretty common for families around here to split babysitting services where the babysitter watches multiple children of 2-3 families which is what I am thinking of doing.
