I have to recommend this book to you. Its called Baby Bargains, by Denise and Alan Fields. It tells you the best of everything for the money. It was soooo helpful when I was regestering. For the convertable car seats Britax was rated the highest for safety and quality.

Re: What Is The Best Car Seat To Register For
I have a snugride Infant seat and a Britax Marathon Convertible carseat.
We stopped using the snugride when she was 8 months old and used the Britax. I love it!

The snugride is a car seat that is also an infant carrier and also can snap into a travel system. We got the snug ride in the Delancy print at our shower adn we are really impressed with it.
The Britax is a covertible car seat which can be used either rear or front facing. Although I don't know many people who use it in the infant stage they say you can.
