What if Oprah did not support Obama?
What if she supported Clinton...
do you think that Obama would still have received the nom?
I was thinking about this last night as I saw many women in the crowd at the convention... I wonder if she is the reason they all went for Obama...

Sorry but I don't put THAT much stock in Oprah- I would hope that people would make up there own minds.
There are so many reasons why Hilary didn't win that I don't even factor this one in.

Honestly, I beleive that because she has such a huge fan base that Clinton would have won the primaries if Oprah had supported her.
What saddens me is that a lot of people pick their candidate not based on policies, theories or plans but who supports them or what they read/see on the internet or tv.

I honestly don't know. I can't help but feel that there are SO many people out there that want someone else to do their homework FOR them. They wait for their favorite celebrity to take a stand and follow suit.
Some people vote because of how their family votes, some follow friends and some follow celebrities. If you really think about it is scary WHAT a mega-celebrity like Oprah could do with her power.

I think if Oprah backed Clinton, Obama would have been giving the "support the party candidate" speech last night while Clinton got ready for her acceptance speech. Oprah is a powerhouse.

Believe it or not, I think she def has the potential to persuade, let's say 3% of her viewers which would translet into almost a million folks. This would make Hillary LOSE.

I have thought about this before, and I believe that it was Oprah that really pushed Obama over the top. Hillary had been leading all along, and then Oprah came out with her support for Obama literally right before Iowa. I really think that had a lot to do with his winning Iowa, and the momentum took over from there.

If that is true, it is really sad. Having said that doesn't anyone actually know anyone who backed Obama because of Oprah.
Watching Hillary last night was bittersweet. She should have been making the acceptance speech on Thursday night. I will support Obama, but Hillary is still the woman!

I don't, but I also feel that people in the Northeast and/or West Coast tend to be more involved in elections and will educate themselves about the parties. I think a lot of people in the Bible Belt or Midwest tend to follow party lines or a celebrity. And Oprah's biggest followings are in these areas, so it stands to reason that her fans would vote for her pick based only on the fact that it's her pick.
Much like Republicans vote the Rebublican line no matter who the candidate is.

this is why i think it probably was a factor. just look at the madonna thread.
we might at people who vote this way, but just think of how many people would rather follow oprah or madonna or any other celebrity.
too many americans don't think for themselves. it's sickening!

I agree. Most other candidates, maybe. BUT Hillary Clinton is one of those people that you either love or hate. I don't think there are enough people that have "neutral" opinions about her that Oprah made any difference.

Doubt it. She does have a tremendous fan base and is very influential, but I think most of her fans are with the age group he had trouble reaching, though I could be wrong.
I think the endorsements that helped him more than any others (within his party) were Ted and Caroline Kennedy.
