What I learned in line today at Baby Gap..

So I'm in line today at Baby Gap gettng DS his two fall pairs of jeans (they're buy one, get one for $10!!) and I'm behind this mom with her sister. The mom couldn't have been older than 23 and she's clad in Louis Vuitton. LV diaper bag, LV purse, LV coin purse - etc.. She's talking about how her DH's sister bought her DD a "fugly $5 dress from Old Navy" and how she wouldn't be caught dead with her child wearing clothes from Old Navy.

Now don't get me wrong - this is none of my business what or where she buys from. I think it's just funny how some people perceive what's good clothes based on how much $$ they spend. I've gotten some wonderful things at Old Navy and I've gotten some things from Janie & Jack that have fallen apart.

Moral of the story is - oh, who knows. It just got me thinking. Chat Icon

As I read this all I was thinking is, that in this economy I am glad I can put clothes on my child's back.

I love Old Navy and Target. I let grandma buy the "fancy stuff" Chat Icon

I'm all for looking nice and teaching my kids to take pride in their appearance but that can be done easily without spending a ton of money. Plus they wear it for so short of time when they are little, that spendning a ton is not necessary.

To each his own. I bet that woman is living a champagne lifestyle on a beer budget and is swimming in debt!Chat Icon

I'm the person who doesn't think it's worth spending more than I have to on clothes for my kid because she's going to outgrow them in a minute or stain them. I guess if I had the money to throw away, I wouldn't care, but I don't have unlimited income, so cheapy clothes it is!Chat Icon

Re: What I learned in line today at Baby Gap..

Wow, she is obviously not too bright. I know plenty of very wealthy people who buy their children clothing inexpensively. I never thought there was a price-quality correlation. Just because something is expensive doesn't make it quality, and vice versa.

And for Miss LV there-If I was there, in the mood I have been in, I would love to ask her-Well, if more expensive things are sooo great, explain why the zipper is tearing on my 1K Cabas Mezzo bag? Chat Icon

I remember reading something Alex McCord from NYC Housewives said (and they definitely have $$$) who would spend tons of money dressing their child in something that will inevitably wind up with chocolate ice cream or spit up on it?!?

And I will be dressing my DC in what is cute-I don't care if it is from Saks or Wal Mart! Chat Icon

I so agree with everything you wrote! When DC is born, I will probably get them a super pricey outfit on a rare occasion, but personally, I see no point in spending $$$ on things that will be destroyed or worn for only a month or so. IMO there are cute things everywhere in every range?

WOW!
Well I am proud to say that I usually get DD's clothes online at Kohls.com with crazy coupon codes. I love spending $4 on a pair of jeans...or I shop at children's place with coupons. I have to say, I think she always looks cute too. So I am not ashamed of it! Everyone is different I guess.Chat Icon

those that are blowing smoke about brand names and pricey things usually have nothing but credit card bills to show for them (and severe insecurities), and vice versra (wise shoppers actually have bank accounts Chat Icon)

I think it's sad actually that people have that mentality. I know several people that had to go downhill in life, and Im talking from mansion to basement, and find themselves Chat Icon Chat Icon

Some people are just full of themselves. Clothes are clothes. I have gotten some super cute things from Target, Kohls, etc. DH and I have been very lucky in this economy to be secure, but I still won't spend a lot of money on DD's clothes (or ours, for that matter)

And I must add that I loved Jennifer Garner even more when I saw a pic of Violet wearing Childrens Place pants, the same ones my DD had. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I love them as a couple and as parents. They are such "hands on" with their children. I saw a picture of him picking them up at a place. It's nice to see that they have so much money and could have anyone that works for them do this but yet they choose to do it themselves and be parents like anyone else.

Oh yeah, because THOSE are exactly the most important lessons we should be teaching our babies and children, that labels matter more than anything else. Pfffffffffffffffffttt...

This woman is really missing out on the point of life, which, in the end, is rather sad. I feel sorry for her and for her children Chat Icon

I get most of my DS clothes from my girlfriends DS who is exactly 6 months older than my DS. They are like brand new!! I am lucky if I get my DS in an outfit even just ONE time....I shop clearance in all the stores like Old Navy and Target!
