What "human" traits does your pet have?
I was having a discussion with my parents about dogs the other day. My Dad said when they dog-sit for their friend's dog, whenever he's on the recliner, the dog will jump on his lap, lay down facing him and just STARE at him. When my Dad says something like "What are you lookin at?", the dog will put his head on the side of his neck and snuggle.
My Dad's a big guy and pretty gruff sometimes, so that visual made me
He said he thinks the dog understands him because he doesn't do it with anyone else...
I'd love to hear the funny and endearing "human" traits your pet has.

I AM LMAO!!
My dog bites her nails! Only one paw in the front and one one in the back.. The other paws are beautiful and smooth nails.. She wants to be cradled in my arms like a baby and stare at me while I talk to her like a little girlie.. She loves that!

We have to do this with the cat!! She knows the word treat! If I say it her ears perk up and she comes running and goes right to the cabinet where we keep them. I have to say to hubby- did you give her a T-R-E-A-T today?
Also- she talks back! Like a defiant teenager. If she is somewhere she is not supposed to be- like a counter or my bed- and I yell at her to get down, she gets down but all the while she is squawking at me in this nasty little voice-and she keeps it up while she walks away- it is hilarious to see and hear! It's almost like she is saying F U mom! Classic!

Re: What "human" traits does your pet have?
One of my horses hugs me. He wraps his (giant) head and neck over my shoulder and around my body and pulls me in close to his chest. Then he holds me there while I scratch his face. He does it almost every day.
That same horse can also drink out of a hose... I hold the hose up, he takes it in his mouth, positions it himself, and can GULP mouthfuls of water without spilling any. The first time he did it, I was like and
My other horse gives me massages. He takes the end of his nose and wiggles it all over my arms and back if I let him. He's sort of grooming me. If I scratch him, he'll turn to me and massage me with his mouth.
This other horse is not generally a hugger - however, twice in the time I've had him, he's hugged me back when I throw my arms around his neck. (The other times, he just tolerates my affection! ) Those were two very sad days in my life. I went to the barn for a break and for a release. I gave him a hug and squeezed me back with his head. I honestly believe he knew I was sad. Back then, this horse had no trust and was very shaken from previous abuse. He wasn't really "ready" to be affectionate... but he hugged back those two days. He knew...

When we scold him he goes to his bed and lies down and lets out a HUGE exhale thru his nose like as p.o'ed and he is saying, '"Humph!"
Also, when he see us getting ready for bed, he comes into the bedroom, yawns, stretches and jumps in the bed and positions himself to go to sleep.

Growing up, my dog knew how to spell certain words, like walk.
We never could teach her to lay down on command, but she could SPELL!

Re: What "human" traits does your pet have?
-She picks up words very quickly - we have to spell
-Once she finds a comfortable spot she lets out a big sigh when she lays down.
-She snores
-She sits on one of the chairs at the table with us sometimes
-Enjoys soaking the jacuzzi tub
-Gets depressed when DH isn't home
-Watches TV
-Likes to be spooned
-Likes to ride in the shopping cart
-Lets out these weird groans when she wants something.. not a whine and not a growl
-Every morning she likes us to pick her up and dangle her so she can stretch

Re: What "human" traits does your pet have?
Teemu will chew up stuff if he gets bored - he chewed up DH's bluetooth , hat, headphones, etc. DH was getting fed up and Teemu KNEW he wasn't supposed to. Dh found something Teemu had chewed up and was SOOOO mad. So DH takes all the replacement things (new bluetooth, new hat, etc) and lines them up on the ground in the den with a few of Teemu's toy and says "Teemu, go get it" to see what he would pick. But Teemu was too smart - he ran over to DH (like he was picking him) and gave him his cutest look (and just sat with DH ignoring all the fun stuff on the floor). DH got over it pretty quick, and actually Teemu has been better about chewing stuff!

This is my dog too. She knows the main words. Mine also watches TV, put a blanket over her sometimes, knocks on the door, and tries to have a conversation with us.
Now my cat is another story. She bangs on the bathroom door and runs, talks back, eats her dry food with her paw, and tries to open doorknobs with her paw.

Our dog also knows words, we have to spell walk, treat, out, etc....
She also does the big harrumphs when she lays down, and "talks" to us--not just whining, different intonations when she wants things....
Sometimes she uses pillows when she lays on the couch, and sometimes she snores when her head is in a weird position.
When she plays with her toys or a bone she holds it with her paws like they are hands

My dogs put themselves to bed too - they can be sleeping soundly on the living room floor, but the minute we start getting ready for bed, they run for theirs and get comfy!
Also, one of them acts like a grumpy teenager when it comes to waking up. She's not a morning person! When we get up and start making noise she'll literally groan (in a disconcertingly human-like way), sigh, and cover her eyes with her paws or rearrange her blanket to block out the light. We have to physically remove her from the bed when it's time to go to work.

Re: What "human" traits does your pet have?
My little girl has many human traits! She knows words and we have to spell like the rest of you....she can be a Bi$ch and when she's mad she won't look at you so you know you made her angry....she has a monogomous relationship with a stuffed monkey...she has been with monkey for 4 years now and has never strayed. She loves when I wisper nice things in her ear she looks at me like she knows exactly what I am saying! I'm sure there are so many more i can't think about!

Re: What "human" traits does your pet have?
They lay in bed with us in between my husband and I on their backs just like we do.
They also both know some key words very well and will react to them accordingly.
When I'm in the car with Arnold, he HAS to sit in the front seat. It's hysterical. Thank GOD I drive a big truck so there's room for us!
Shelby is like a little girl... she follows me in the morning when I'm getting ready. She watches me pick out my clothes while laying on the bed, she then follows me downstairs to the bathroom to watch me put on my make up. It's really funny.

Lola insists on sleeping under the covers in the bed in between me and DH - She sleeps on her side with her head on the pillow and under the blanket -
thank god she's only 8lbs !!
She also 'talks' when she's annoyed at you - it's not barking, or growling ........she kind of sounds like a racoon. -

so true. My mom's dog also knows sounds, he knows when she is opening the fridge or cabinet where his treats are he's already sitting and ready for food
He'll "talk" when he wants something, and also to let you know how he "feels" Example if my dad tries to give my mom a hug or kiss hello my dog will sometimes bark at him as if hes saying hey thats my woman hands off and then he'll go in their bed and lay down on my dad's pillow as if its his HE hates when I blow on his face. i'll light blow on him and he will take his paw and motion as if hes slapping you away he's too cute. Ok now I miss him and want to go see him
