Malls have more secuirty than our schools.
I think one patrol person is reasonable, Whether it be NYPD or there are thousands of retired cops that would be an excellent fit for a security position.
I think video cameras should be mandatory, for many reasons, not just crazed psychos with oozies.
Buzzer system and waiting area.
Agreed on all points. I was thinking this. malls, sporting events, etc. all have more security than our schools. Strange.

While I don't agree with what the NRA said as a whole, they did make this point. The people that mean the most to us in the world, and that would need the most protection, have the least protection.

Re: What do you think security at schools should look like?
Honestly, for me, I would be most comforted by a security "plan" - basically what the teachers are supposed to do with the kids if something like this happens - i.e. get the hell out of the building! I would love for the school to be alarmed in the same way my house is and if someone "breaks in" the alarm sounds and the plan takes effect.
I think if someone is this evil and has their mind set on this kind of destruction - a bullet proof room and armed security guard will make no difference. I mean, the guy that did this - didn't he shoot out a window to get in? So, even if there was top notch security at the front entry it would have made zero difference. At the end of the day, I personally think there needs to be primary focus on 1. alerting the entire building to the fact there is a dangerous intruder and 2. what to do if that happens.

Re: What do you think security at schools should look like?
I have a question for those who are for armed security in schools....what about when the kids are outside for recess or PE? I am a teacher and take my class outside to recess everyday, what good would an armed guard do if a shooter walks up to a playground?? Our playground is on the side of the school, fenced in, but close to the parking lot. Anybody can walk up to the fence and start shooting. A security guard in the school or having I'd checks at the door aren't going to prevent anything if somebody wants to do harm when kids are outside!! Are you going to take away all outside activities to keep them safe???

In my perfect world we would be working on regulating guns, making stricter laws for obtaining guns, outlawing these insane automatic weapons that can shoot more than one bullet.
How are we affording cops in every school in NYC when we can barely afford the teachers who are already there?
I don't know...the whole thing is crazy....
Ita with his. What's so bad about it? U still get to have guns. I really think the only guns allowed should be a rifle for hunting purposes and I still wouldn't own one.

What do you think security at schools should look like?
As a teacher in a high school and a parent..............plain and simple..........we NEED armed officers in our school.
