what do you think of gerber and beechnut toddler meals?
josh hates eating most foods (it's so bad we are seeing a speech therapist for his behavioral feeding issues) but with only a little fighting he will eat the pasta and veggies out of the gerber or beechnut toddler meals.
i started giving them to him at dinner but they have so much sodium in them and how nutitious can they really be. for lunch he'll eat a little spaghetti with marinara sauce and a veggie. all he eats is pasta and veggies.
what do you think about these toddler meals?
can you think of any other alternatives to these meals that are the same consistency but healthier?
tia!

Re: what do you think of gerber and beechnut toddler meals?
i never tried them with DS bc of the sodium content.
i give DS (who is 10 months) pasta with homemade sauce (i jar my own sauce every year), i add in frozen vegis.
if he is used to associating the packaging with the food then save the packaging and make your own in place it in there

Hi there, I have used these once in a while, they work for us if we are rushing or if we go to someones house I will pack one .
what about the small bowls that beenut makes table time mac and cheese - are these as high in salt as the meals with entree and veggie - you may want to check them out, they have good selections and side meals too.
maybe also chef boyardee?

They are loaded with sodium. What about doing his pasta and veggies in a meat sauce?? Get some protien that way or maybe putting some pureed beans in a sauce?

Chef boyardee has more sodium than the toddler meals.
DD eats them. Unless I'm making food from scratch or picking veggies from the farm (which I don't typically do), there is going to be a lot of sodium in the "adult" food also so I'd rather give her the stuff formulated for her age. She likes the Gerber Entrees with the main dish and the veggie sides.
I actually just looked at some stuff in my cupboard. Plain tomato Sauce, stewed tomatoes, chili beans, canned and frozen green beans, tomato soup, boxed mac n cheese (that powder stuff), plain oatmeal, etc. all have more sodium in them per serving than a Gerber Graduates Tub of spinach and cheese ravioli. Even milk has 120 grams of sodium per serving.

I agree with Summer.
And honestly, given the issues you've had with feeding him, I'd start with these and then try to transition at some point, at least he is eating, right?
