What do you think of blogs? (poll)
With the increasing popularity of folks posting on blogs and those who read them...do you agree or disagree that:
some (not all) blogs are a bit passive-aggressive?
I know people that never express their feelings outloud, but when it comes to a blog, the flood-gates open....
Recently, someone I know has been the "victim" of a blog attack (person A). A person posted a blog, and then at the very last minute attacked person A. Person A then came to me and said "am I being paranoid, or is it about me?" I agreed that it's definitely about person A and this is what had me thinking...why not approach the person directly rather than airing it out on the internet through a blog for all to see?

I love reading blogs of people that I don't know. It makes me feel like I am a voyeur. I personally wouldn't have a blog...for the exact reason that I read them.

Re: What do you think of blogs? (poll)
As someone whose husband was basically stalked by his ex-gf who posted all sorts of sordid details about herself AND him on her blog, I have to say I find many blogs extremely passive-aggressive. It's fine if the blog is professional or about public figures or something. I find those somewhat interesting sometimes (but cannot say I read any blog regularly). I am, however, quite against people who post details about other individuals without that individual's permission... especially if you're a crazy stalker-biotch who is going to go around spreading lies.

Re: What do you think of blogs? (poll)
I love blogs about business, money management, technology/internet, decorating, fashion, and I'm ashamed to admit...celebrity gossip. My feed reader has about 100 blogs in it.
I have my own in fact to use as a receptacle for things I like, and want to refer back to etc. I like that it's public because I can share it, get feedback, etc. I had one for my wedding too just to keep family in the loop. We have one for our business as well.
But...I can't stand it when people use them as a wall to hide behind and attack other people. It's really annoying and a total turn off. A blog is also part of your "brand" as a person and should the author mature and stop writing personal things in it, it will still be indexed, searchable, and can come back to haunt you.

I write a blog. I don't see how they are much different from a message board, though I guess you do have more freedom to attack others (without worrying that your post will be pulled.)
I do think they can be passive-agressive, but I think those are really a small number. Nearly all of the blogs I read (teacher blogs) are constructive and don't contain personal attacks.
My blog is anonymous, but I realize that I could be "outed" and therefore my main rule is to not write anything that I would not stand by in real life.
It's pathetic that people resort to using blogs for the purpose of attacking others- but people can be mean and it's not surprising.
