What do you think I should do? POLL
I am 27 y/o and I have been seeing a RE since Sept. '08. They dont know why I have not been able to get pregnant. I have done every test and nothing has came out positive. I have done 3 rounds of clomid with IUIs and it didnt work and now I just did one cycle of injections with IUI. I had a IUI yesterday and I have one scheduled for today. I am thinking POSITIVE that this will be our month but part of me wants to look ahead incase its not our month. We have been trying for a year and a half now. I cant express how bad I want another baby. I am lucky I have one DC that is healthy and I will except if thats all god will give me.
What should I do?
Another round of injections with IUI?
Or go right to IVF?
TY

I'm assuming your DH has been tested also?

If you are doing injections anyway... I personally would just go straight to IVF...

Re: What do you think I should do? POLL
Your story sounds just like mine!!!
I am 28 years old and essentially dealing with unexplained IF - though I have "slightly" elevated FSH and had a uterine polyp removed (neither conclusively is causing my IF).
I did 3 Clomid/IUI cycles and 1 injectable/IUI cycle. This cycle we did not do anything because we were out of the country for 10 days.
We are doing one more injectable/IUI cycle and then moving onto IVF (as long as DH gets on board - which is a whole other story!).
Sorry for the background - but I would go straight to IVF.

Hopefully this IUI will work for you. If it does not I would go to IVF. Best of luck to you.

That would be my first question as well.

Re: What do you think I should do? POLL
Assuming like PPs said that your DH has been tested and has no issues...
Well, first I have a question. Are IUIs with injections covered by your insurance? What about IVF?
If IUIs are covered, but IVF is not... I would go for 1 more cycle. How was your response to injections?
If we had the chance, I would have liked to do 2-3 IUIs with injections before moving onto IVF. IVF is so emotionally and financially draining. If an IUI could have worked before having to take that step, then I would have been thrilled!
I think it's good to give each treatment method at least 2 tries. The first one is kind of getting to know your body and how it reacts to the meds, and the proper adjustments can be made for the second time.

I agree with Hayley...what is the insurance coverage like? That is the biggest decision for me and DH. I'll keep doing medicated IUI's as long as they will let me b/c they are covered and IVF will not be.

Re: What do you think I should do? POLL
I was in the same situation as you. I did 2 injectable IUIs and then moved on to IVF, which was successful. I got to the point where I just knew that the IUIs wouldn't work. My insurance didn't cover the IVF or else I would have moved on to it sooner.

Re: What do you think I should do? POLL
I had unexplained IF and did 5 rounds of IUI with Clomid and injections before finally moving to IVF. I got pg on the first IVF try and in retrospect I wish I had not wasted so much time with IUI. If you have the insurance coverage or $$, I say go for IVF.

Re: What do you think I should do? POLL
Look at it this way...an IUI (Injectable or Clomid) can only increase your chances of getting PG by 10-20% whereas IVF can increase your chances by 40-50% - each cycle. But, there is insurance to figure in along with the emotional stress of doing an IVF cycle. You invest a lot more in IVF. Have you had all testing done? Have you had an HSG, water sono's, and/or hysteroscopy? You need to know that all your parts are working correctly for an IUI to even work. It's a very personal decision, and you need to sit down with your DH and decide if you want to go ahead with IVF.

Re: What do you think I should do? POLL
I did 2 rounds of natural IUI's and 3 rounds of injectable IUI's and then moved to IVF. They say if it doesn't happen after your 4th round of IUI, it's a good time to start thinking about the next step

Re: What do you think I should do? POLL
My RE recommended we do 3 rounds of IUI. But we are going to do 4 rounds instead and then move on to IVF. My insurance covers IUIs and after the 3rd round, we have a vacation planned. I don't want to start an IVF cycle at that point.
If you insurance covers the IUIs then I would go for another round and then move on to IVF. If they don't, then I would go straight to IUI.
