If you want to take something besides tums you should really call your dr to ask them.

You can also try a glass of milk. I usually helps me.
feel better!!

My dr. okayed Pepcid AC. I take it 1 hour before bed, and it's like a miracle drug for me.

Re: What do you take for severe heartburn?

My doctor told me to take Maalox or Mylanta, the liquid form and to keep it in the fridge.

Works sometimes.

Blah, this is just now happening to me. I hate it! Chat Icon I haven't tried tums yet, so I'll start with that.

me too...I finally gave in at my last appt. Chat Icon

I am on the generic, famotidine 20mg once daily.

it definitely takes the edge off...though I still do pop the tums.

I wouldn't take anything stronger than calcium carbonate (Tums) without an RX from the doc.

Re: What do you take for severe heartburn?

I took mylanta the other night and it worked like a charm. I am in my last 6 weeks and it has just started recently, so I am trying to control it with dietary changes if possible.

A few things you might want to do to help prevent heartburn: don't drink anything with your meals, as your stomach fills up so fast, avoid anything spicy, fried or acidic (even OJ and cranberry juice.) Eat small meals, don't let your self get to the point of feeling full. Also, avoid carbonated drinks.

I take prescription Nexium 40mg. I took it last pregnancy and this one. I would die without it- I've been on it for over 10 years. Chat Icon

Re: What do you take for severe heartburn?

I am taking zantac as well. I read that the ingredient in zantac is safer than the pepcid but I'm not sure if that goes for pepcid ac, pepcid complete- or both.

I was taking pepcid complete for a few years before i was preg and the dr. told me to stop.
