What do you do? Convertible Carseats & restaurants

My DD is 5 months today. Unfortunately she outgrew her super narrow carseat so she is now in a convertible car seat. My question is: Unless a restaurant is SUPER family friendly and large how the heck do we take her to a restaurant without an infant carseat if she can't really use a high chair since she can't sit up on her own? Bring the whole stroller in? We did that at "On The Border" in Hicksville on a really quiet time of day but I could not imagine doing that during dinner time or another busy time.

My girls were both sitting up by 5 months old so we didn't have this problem but I have heard some people say they keep the infant car seat in the trunk and use it in restaurants and stores as a seat for them to sit in until they can sit up on their own.

While she might not be able to use the seat b/c of weight limit - could you bring it in your trunk and just use it when you go out to eat until she can sit in a high chair?

Also they have a fisher price high chair that attaches to a chair. It is bigger than those booster seats with the tray - but the seat reclines so you could put your DD in it without a problem.

The Fisher Price booster seat is our best friend at a restaurant. You can strap it to a chair, but we have also just plopped it into a booth.

The problem is that the seat is super narrow because it has extra padding for side impact protection so she is really uncomfortable in it. Do you think DD be able to fit ok in the booster? I might have to buy one. Thanks so much!Chat Icon

That looks like a great seat. How old was your DC when he started using it?

Well I have the fisher price booster with the toy (rainforest one) and we LOVE it - but honestly if your DC isn't sitting up on her own I don't know that I would recommend it - maybe you want to go to BBB and try it out. I recommended the other seat - Fisher price space saver - b/c it reclines and you can use it at grandmas etc - when you don't need it for restaurants. It is padded and reclines so it is great for a baby who is not sitting on his/her own yet!

Etd to add we got this when my family went to their Country club for holiday meals - DD was sitting up on her own but we go for 2-3 hours and the booster seat wasn't comfortable - she LOVED the seat - and was able to even sleep in it which was a big plus - now it is a great seat to have at home to bring to MIL's etc.

DS is 5 months too but we're still using the bucket seat.

we bring the FP rainforest booster with us to restaurants. it's wonderful because it has toys that keep his attention while we eat. and they're attached so we know they're not going on the floor!

$24.99 in BRU

Re: What do you do? Convertible Carseats & restaurants

i've had my stroller in a million restaurants at all times of the day or evening. don't even worry about it. when you tell them how many, just tell them you want the stroller too, they'll find a place to make it work. i used the stroller for a while (i never used my own chair thingy) went from infant seat on the table to stroller at 6 months, then up to a high chair when he was old enough to sit up on his own. (or sometimes if it was still borderline, stuff my jackets into the highchair behind him, so ds was propped up a bit better. (he was starting to sit, even though he wasn't quite there yet)

hth

ETA: went to a place last night with both kids, no high chairs in the place at all. tiny place, 12 tables and a bar... got the stroller jammed into a corner of the table by the wall, they took a chair away from the table behind us to work it out. and it was fine. place was very accomodating for an establishment that doesn't even own a high chair. (and there was another table behind us with 2 small kids too)

My son was out of the infant carseat at 2 months - I brought my stroller into every restaurant - it was never an issue.

I think this would be a giant PITA, right?

Just get the FP booster, that is what we did at that age and use it still! At grandma's, etc!

We have been using the highchairs in the restaurants, but DS can sit up on his own.
I like the seat Colleen posted. I have to look into that b/c the high chairs in the restaurants can be grimy!

Ew, I know, right? This seat folds flat so it's easy to keep in the stroller (I still use the infant carrier with a snap n' go but Charlotte doesn't always like to stay in the seat when we're out - she likes the view from where we are better LOL).
