They do kindergarten screening but it's just to see where they are at. It's not required to be let into kindergarten. Actually my dd missed her screening last year. They told me they would just do it in the first couple weeks of school.
The only other thing that's required is the health history. Certain shots and whatnot

Thanks I meant kindergarten screening and I’m seeing all these posts about a list of requirements so I’m just trying to see if my dd is missing anything.

No requirements. They just do the screening to see where they are at. They don't deny them entry if they can't do A, B or C....

The screening is just so they can balance out the classrooms. It’s not a pass fail or anything.

Registration is just birth certificate, deed, property tax etc etc.
Screening doesn’t get done until June and is just for placement.

My district screening tested to see if they knew their letters both upper and lower and numbers.
Pre-reading skills like the sounds the letters make, blended sounds like ch and sh.
Address, phone number
Asked them to name body parts like wrist, ankle and elbow
Write their first and last name
Draw shapes
Do simple math like count how many in all
Colors
Stand on one foot, hop and run in place
Screening is to see where they fall. It’s to help make classes up and to see if some children may need services such a speech. Don’t stress about it it’s a very relaxed thing. In our district they send a letter out and tell you how they did on their screening and what areas they need to work on.

There are no academic or developmental requirements for Kindergarten. Just an age requirement. The screenings are completed to balance out the classrooms and to comply with the NYS new entrant law/rule.

Yes. My dd started doing it on her own a couple of weeks ago and now it’s a weekly homework assignment that they write it daily.
Mine stilll struggles with 6 letters and their sounds so we are just trucking along practicing.
We also made an address and phone number song as we were told she needs to know that.

According to Catholic school there is a whole slew of requirements. I’m in hell right now of it. But that’s a whole other story.

And that was their FIRST name. And this was a month into K already. No mention of last name or address or phone number.
They really don't NEED to know anything going in. That's the K teacher's job.

She’s in OT and they are confident she will get the last 6 letters in the next 3 months but not her current school.
It’s a nightmare because we won’t send her to our district for numerous reasons. At least I have 6 months to figure this all out.

Wow. That is such bullshitt. They hyped up how hard K would be these days, how demanding, but honestly, it was fine. I didn't find it to be terrible or overly hard for DD at all.

That's just crazy. So this is a private school and they won't let a child in unless they know all the letters before entering kindergarten? I can see being concerned if they only know a few but to be all worked up bc a kid needs help with 6 letters half way through prek is crazy.

I’m pretty sure the kids born the week before her only need to know their numbers and colors, though.

That’s my question. We have a meeting with the principal next week. I called it. There is much more to the story but this small piece is a big part of my argument.
