What do newborns wear when they first come home?

I'm sure this has been asked a bunch of times, but I can't seem to find the thread.

We just had our shower last week and got so many onesies! I washed, dried and folded everything (nesting much ) but just want to make sure we have everything we need for when baby comes home. Are they basically in onesies and swaddled most of the time? Feetie pajamas at night?

ETA: I meant for inside the house I know to dress baby for when we go out, but I guess that is only for doctors appts the first few weeks .

I've posted this before and apparently I am insane but I had DD dressed every day.

I loved Sleep and Plays (the ones from Carters with buttons in the front)

I would use pants with the onesies. You may have a baby who hates to be swaddled. My DD broke out of the swaddle constantly and I just gave up on it.

For me, I had a couple of sleep and plays, onesies with pants, skirts, etc, outfits, dresses. DD was also in NB for 2 months, so we needed outfits.

Since I will reiterate that I am insane since I had DD fully dressed with headbands pretty much daily, I think the best advice I can give you is to make sure you have at least enough NB to last two weeks. I made my poor mom run out since I had maybe 3 NB things! DD couldn't even wear 0-3 until she was about 7 weeks old!

ETA-also make sure you have a few hats, mittens and socks!

I dress DD in feetie pajamas when we are home. Cute ones with ruffles and stuff for the day and plain ones at night. When we go out I put her in onesiees with pants or dresses.

Definitely get NB size, she was in them for the first month!

Footie PJs.

I liked the zipper ones MUCH better than the snaps for an easy change of a kicking baby.

I disagree with getting too many NB sizes until you know the stats of your baby. I could use my NB size for maybe 1-2 weeks... the 0-3 Mo fit much better in no time. DS was 7lb 12 oz when born... so not huge, they just grow fast.

Onsies are cute, but now that it's chilly, I can't really go out with them on and his feet get cool. Footie PJs are easier than onsies with blankets, socks and pants. Also easier to change when dirty (we go through about 4-5 outfits a day!).

I love those little dresses its so easy to check and change the diaper or those zipper sacs.

My DD was basically in zip up or button up carter's sleep and plays for the first 2 months of her life.

DS lived in Carter's Sleep and Plays (the snap footie PJs) for the first 8 months or so. I've never put him in a onesie, and he's 15 months old (so I assume I never will).

I only swaddle DD at night. The rest of the time she is in footie PJ's onesies with pants or sleep and plays with no feet.

Jeremy is already out of NB sizes at one month, but Abby wore them for a long time. There was a 2 pound difference at birth between the two of them. Jeremy is long and lean - not chunky at all. Abby was born 10 days earlier than Jeremy was and it stayed hotter longer. She was in short sleeved onesies and pants with socks. Jeremy is now in feety PJ's.

I like the little cotton pants by carter's and gerber with either a onesie or a side snap tee.

Feetie PJ's, as PP mentioned definetely get NB sizes, my DD was in them for @ least 2 months!!

Also a word of advice-try to stock up on PJ's with ZIPPERS!!!! WHen that baby is crying b/c you have to change him/her the last thing you want to do is button. I will never buy button PJs again!

I dressed dd every day in clothes not pjs. She wore cute onsies and pants, dresses, even jeans. I didn't buy that many newborn clothes and once dd was born I had to run out to get more newborn since I thought she would be in 0-3 months really quickly. DD is 7 weeks and still in newborn, she is almost 11lbs.

My DD lived in Carter's sleep 'n plays for probably the first 4 months of her life. Occasionally, we'd do a long-sleeved onesie with comfy pants, but the footie pj's are the best - sooo easy and no need to worry about socks, etc. My DD wore newborn for like a week maybe even though they seemed so big at first so I disagree about getting more than a couple of things in newborn until you know your dc's size. She was out of 0-3 Carter's by 2 months - she was too long for them and they squished her feet. The 0-3 were a little big on her at first, but not unwearable. The newborn were snug very quickly and were just not long enough.

My was always in one piece pajamas (the one with the feet) days & nights. Then when she goes out we changed her to different outfits.
