what day do YOU ovulate?
i bought Target OPK tests, and i try every other day during the popular 2 week period (starting CD 7-CD 15 or so). i try to stretch it out because they are pricey to test every day.
well, i've NEVER gotten a positive! how can this be? my period is now pretty regular (30 day cycle) post BCP. just to be sure, we BD every other day anyway.
what day do you O? any advice for me?

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
Honestly? You are going about this all wrong.
If you're only testing with OPKs every other day, you are VERY likely to miss your surge.
Are you testing in the afternoon (between 2 and 8 pm) after having held your urine for 4 hours?
Some people only get 1 day of +OPK - you have a 50% chance of missing it if you're not testing every day.
Also, if your cycle is 30 days you probably don't need to start using OPKs until CD 11 at the earliest. If you look at the Clearblue Easy directions, you'll see they recommend starting on CD 13 for a 30 day cycle - and if you don't know how long your cycles are, they recommend starting on CD 10.
By starting on CD 7, you're wasting a ton of sticks! You could use those to help you test every day.
How many sticks do you use each month?

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
One more thing - sorry if I'm bombarding you!
When my cycles are 30 days long, I ovulate on CD 16. I would get a my +OPK on CD 14.
Let's pretend I only testing every other day. I'd test: CD 7, 9, 11, 13, 15. I might never get a positive - but I DID ovulate.
I hope this helps! Please feel free to ask any questions you have!

Yikes! Thank you. I've been doing it all wrong.
The Target packs are short on directions, and actually say you can use FMU, but i've been testing in the afternoon. I usually use a pack of 7 per month doing it every other day during what I guessed would be the appropriate weeks. Which obviously hasn't been working. Today was CD 14 and i tested and NOTHING. the palest line ever.
this month may be lost, but maybe we'll get lucky from BDing every other day this month.

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
Most OPKs are based on the assumption that you'll only use 7 sticks per month.
If you go by the directions, it will probably have you start on CD 13.
Are your cycles definitely 30 days? How long have you been off BCP?

Thank you SO much for your help!
I haven't been off BCP long--3 months. the first 2 were 30 day cycles, so that seems to have leveled off. longer than on BCP, but regular. unless 2 months isn't long enough to know for sure, which totally could be the case. i didn't want to miss it by starting at 13, kwim? but in covering all the bases i might have missed it.

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
well in any case, I wouldn't start before CD 10. You'd probably be safe on CD 11-12 also.
Think of it this way, someone with a perfect 28-day cycle and 14 day LP (luteal phase, or time between ovulation and AF) will ovulate on CD 14.
If your cycle is 30 days and you have a 14 day LP, you're likely to O on CD 16. KWIM? So if your cycles are longer than 30 days, you PROBABLY ovulate later than CD 14, so starting on CD 13 should be fine for you.
Best of luck for next month!
What's your BD schedule been this month?

I agree - another scenario to consider is that you ovulate rather late and have a shorter LP. I usually O somewhere between CD18-20 and my LP is only about 10-11 days.
You might want to committ to using two packs for one month just to get an idea of when you're ovulating. Then for subsequent months, you'll know when you should start testing. It will be expensive for the one month, but I think it will save you money (not to mention frustration and heartache!) in the long run. I've found that I've never o'd before CD18, but it has been as late as CD22.
Another option is to temp for a month to see where you think you ovulate - will only cost you as much as the thermometer.
Good luck.

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
i just want to add that you may not be out for this month yet. you have been BDing every other day so try not to get too down on yourself. like a PP mentioned, you may go through 2 packs this month but that will help you narrow it down for the next month and then you will only need 1 pack. good luck!

The reason I started testing early on was that I had EWCM so I thought I might be Oing (at like CD 7 or 8). I got a line on the O kit, darker than usual, but not as dark as the other line.
So does that mean I am kind of ovulating if it's a dark line, but not as dark as the other line?

As maybemommy said, there's always LH in your system - sometimes more than others depending on concetration of urine, etc. So the darkness of the line, unless it's darker than the control, isn't really a reliable indicator of ovulation. You should check out the website www.peeonastick.com - lots of good info on there.
It sounds like you might've missed your surge, but as a PP said, BDing every other day is a good plan and you'd be likely to catch the egg whenever you ovuated. Also a good idea to BD whenever you see EWCM.
Good luck!

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
I bought a 50 pack of OPK's on eBay for $20 and it was SO worth it. After coming off the pill, I was so irregular I knew I'd need more than the 7 pack.

Can you FM me the seller? I am so hesitant to buy stuff from there that may be fake or expired.

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
I happen to be on the late side too. I ovulate around day 17 or 18 with a regular 30 day cycle. When we were trying with DS I actually went through a whole pack of OPK and was worried I wasn't ovluating so I went and bought a second pack. The month I figured out when I actually ovulate was the month I got pregnant.

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
I use mymonthlycycles.com to track my periods and it usually gives me a window when I will ovulate. I also use the saliva ovulation thing during that period. Your saliva changes when you ovulate. You can reuse it. I know people that had no luck with it by me and several of my friends have had good results. At the very least try tracking on a site to give you a window in which you should ovulate so you don't use so many sticks.
I am trying for baby #3 now and will be using the same method

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
I just ordered a combo pack of opk's and stick test strips from baby creations
and I use fertility friend to track my cycles... with DS I only used FF but I am going to give the OPK's a shot with TTC with # 2 since my temp schedule is all wacky...

Re: what day do YOU ovulate?
The past 2 cycles I had ovulated between days 17 and 20.
This month, after taking B6 and B-complex with my pre-natals, I O'ed on day 14. I am not sure if there is a correlation . . .
