What could this be!?? Credit related
I get a letter in the mail today for DH. It says GE Moneybank has received your request for credit for the program named above. Regretfully, your request cannot be approved at this time. Reason given was UNABLE TO VERIFY IDENTITY. It was a "REQUEST FOR CREDIT FROM PAYPAL".
Identity Theft?? Junk mail? DH never applied for credit from Paypal. He is computer illiterate and doesn't have a paypal Acct, I do.

He should check his credit reports and call the company that sent the letter ASAP.

tell him to check his credit report ASAP - GE Moneybank does those "store" cards - like sleepys, etc. identity thieves usually open these types of cards.

i just did, there is nothing about a GE Money Bank acct request. I think the UNABLE to Verify Identity means that someone applied using his name addy but didn't have his SSN?

I would call the company that sent the letter immediately to get more info.
Well, have DH call, as they likely won't give the info out to you.

Don't get too upset just yet. 
It sounds to me like their fraud protection worked exactly the way it was supposed to - they notified you by mail and it looks like your DH's credit wasn't compromised. Have your DH call GE Moneybank and inquire about this -- make sure he tells them he NEVER applied for credit with them.
Keep monitoring all three of his credit reports for a few months and report anything suspicious ASAP.

Is there a number on there that you are supposed to call? It could be a scam that you are supposed to call and provide your info for (for those who are silly enough to do that!) which they'll then steal for something else

You can get around this by Googling GE MoneyBank (a legit entity, BTW) and calling the customer service number you find online.
FYI -- Per PayPal's web site and GE MoneyBank's web site, the two ARE affiliated. Sounds like someone tried to open a CC in your DH's name.

I called Paypal and they gave me the number to GE Money Bank. I think someone did just that, tried opening an acct with DH's name, had the wrong SSN (thank god).
Someone enlighten me, how does that work if you apply for credit in someone elses name doesnt the acct number and card get mailed to their house like this letter got mailed to us?

it would if they gave your address- which it looks like they did.
however, please call experian - not all inquiries show up on credit reports (there is a way to pull credit so no one "sees" you do it).
you can also put a flag on your credit reports - that if a bank looks at your credit, a message comes up stating to call you anytime credit is requested. This way you get a phone call before any further action is taken.

We had that done in the past because my computer was hacked into and my Quickbooks file gone thru (who nother story). I will have it added again.

I would call the company you got the letter from to find out what it is...if nothing on his Credit report then it may just be junk mail trying to get you to apply
