what color walls....

i hate asking paint questions, but i have ONE more room to paintChat Icon

now for downstairs, our formal living room (flows into our office) looks like this:
External Image
but the wall to the left is gone now, so its an L-shaped room (ignore the mess please!)

External Image

what color should I paint it? (i am painting the same color in that corner part as well)

we are ordering leather couches in a chocolate color.

I was thinking a mauve or green (FH is against green thoughChat Icon )

would mavue look OK againt the fireplace??

eta: there wont be beige carpet - there are hardwoods underneath we are having refinished.

I would go wtih a light tan or goldish color with the dark furniture and fireplace. We painted our liv room Golden Tan by BM and it is sorta a yellow-ish, goldish, tan...works really nice with our wood moldings and furniture.

Would you consider painting the brick around the fireplace white? I think it would really pop in the room.

IMO because of the brick you have to be careful with pink tones like Mauve...it may pull out weird tones in the brick. I think a great rich BM beige/tan/carmel color would be awesome with your chocolate sofas, then you can use pillows, window treatments & accessories in the color you like.

I like this idea. You could get mauve/red colored pillows, window treatments with a tan colored wall.

Green works too. I liked the soft greens I've been seeing in people's homes during our house search.

I wouldnt do a mauve color.

I was going to suggest a warm tan / beige or a goldish yellow like BM's dorset gold or chestertown buff.

I think a light taupe shade would look nice also.

why not paint the wall on the right a green and the wall to the left a warm tan or vice versa? this will allow for room separation.

Re: what color walls....

If DH won't agree to a green, how about a shade of blue? It would look nice with the brown and won't interfere with the brick on the fireplace.

I agree with this also the brown might make the room more purple than mauve ontop of throwing the brick color off. If your DH doesnt want to do green how about a blue tone. Blue and brown look so nice together and if your whole house is tan then I probably would stay away from that also.
