What color trim would be your preference in this instance
The house we are buying has stained wood trim thats very glossy - nice quality and a big wood fireplace.
We were thinking of painting all the trim and the fireplace in off white to give it a fresh look but it's in such great shape the way it is I don't know what is the best descision here. We'd have to do all the window trim and paint the doors also...

I don't like the look of wood trim, so I would paint it white.
However, I know others love this look so it's your choice.

Same here. The only way I like a dark stain on trim is for a library/ mans den otherwise I like white trim. I think it's a less dated look.

Definitely paint it white... I personally think wood trim looks dated. White is so much fresher.

I would probably paint it white as well.
I think you might have to sand it a little bit (or at least use steel wool) then prime it then paint it. I've learned not to do short cuts! they don't pay in the end. SO if you are going to paint the trims then do them right and research first (unless you already know how to do it).

I say white. that fireplace would look completely different in white and new handles. But it's all in what your taste is really. what do you like better, the wood or white? Just make sure you sand first, then primer, then paint two coats. And find out what kind of paint you might have to use around the fireplace. GL!

Im not a fan of painting wood, but agree that the lighter wood looks dated. Can you stain it a darker color?
However, if your only options are leave it or paint it white, Id paint it white.

I actually like the wood trim. Would look great with warm colored walls. However, I am not a huge fan of the as is wood fireplace surround.
I agree with either staining the wood darker or painting it white/ivory.

I say white. We had the same thing at my other house and my stepdad who is a painter did this...
sand down the trim
wipe it down with a damp sponge and cleaner
since its glossy, you need an oil based primer... try zinsser
primer needs to dry for 24 hours
then you can paint with a latex white over the primer. i would go for a semi gloss finish for the trim

im usually not a fan of painting nice wood but the finish looks a little dated to me. i would paint it white, it will give it such a fresh update!

Me too. I'd leave the trim & either paint or replace the fireplace surround.
The FP doesn't have to match the trim. It can be painted to coordinated with the walls or other things in the room.

I'd paint the fireplace. I'm not a fan of glossy wood finishes in a light color like that.
I'd leave the windows & doors for now. Once you put up window treatments you won't see half the wood around the window.
