What college saving plan do you have for your DC?
Why did you choose this plan? Please tell me about it.
We are looking into starting a 529 but wanted to see what some other options are. I am totally clueless so any and all info is very much appreciated. DS is 3 weeks old and I feel behind already

We have 529 accounts for all 3 kids. We also have savings accounts for them where we put their birthday money, gifts, etc.

hope she does well in school, apply for a million scholarships and pray we can refinance our house at that time if we need it.

Right now this is my savings plan too
Hopefully in the next few months things will start to turn around. I would like to open a 529 and a savings account for him but it would be pointless at the moment because it would just sit empty.

Right now we just have a savings account. We have looked into setting up a 529 for him but haven't done that yet. Every cent we have is going towards saving for a house right now. Once things settle down we hope to be able to put some money aside for him and future children. Honestly though, I had college loans and am just fine

We have a 529 plan for each child and $25 a month is automatically deposited into each of them.

I save all cash gifts for them, but it's not for college, it's for big things like house Etc
We save cash every year just to have it. Our plan is to have our mortgage paid off before they start college. With the cost of education we need to have no mortgage , no car payments , or other other debt. They need to apply for scholarships / financial aid when the time comes. If they are exceptional (truly exceptional) they should get part scholarships and we will pay the rest. If not, they are living at home and going to state school.

Yeah I was talking to my hubby during lunch (god its really nice to be able to pop over and we can eat together) … I realized we aren’t putting anything aside because we are paying equivalent to a college tuition right now!
Once she’s in public school we’ll be freed of the mortgage payment called tuition and we can put some of that aside for her ‘later tuition’ LOL. I am planning about ¼ of what I pay to her Pre-K to go to a college plan instead.
We have no tax-free 529 here

We invest money in 529 plans for our girls. Last year the account had a 10% return. That is much higher than if we kept money in savings. I try not to moniter balance on a regular basis as stocks go up and down. We are hoping that long term (15yrs) the overall return will be enough.

529 for just DS right now, each month we put in $275 (idk why that amount DH picked it??). If he gets money for christmas/birthdays, etc. . .that goes into his 529 as well. Once #2 is here, we can only afford to still put roughly the same amount in each month so each child will get $150 per month.
ETA - poor kid #2 already

I guess we need to get the ball rolling on the 529 but I have no idea how it works, I have to look into it.
If all else fails we are hoping for scholarships or she'll learn a trade
