What can I do about my sinuses?
I had a cold for the majority of the week. Right now, My nose is so jammed shut it's not even funny. I am forced to breathe through my mouth, which is making my throat hurt even more, my lips are horribly chapped, and I'm miserable.
I am at my witts end here. I am prone to sinus infections and usually need antibiotics to clear them up. I know there's nothing I can probably take (antibiotics-wise) - does anyone have any suggestions as to how to clear my nose out? I don't mind it running, it's the fullness I can't deal with.
I feel like I've been such a complainy-pants lately. I'm really not a miserable person, I promise!

Re: What can I do about my sinuses?
There are some antibiotics you can take while pregnant. I had a UTI and was on one awhile ago (in my 1st trimester).
I have really bad nasal congestion also. It has been my entire pregnancy. The only thing that helps it is Saline Nasal Spray. It works pretty well if I use it often enough. I got the kind that is saline only because I use it so frequently that I was nervous to get one with any kind of "drug" in it.
hope you feel better soon!

Re: What can I do about my sinuses?
Im right there with you! My doc did put me on antibiotics and mucinex after me trying to fight it for almost two weeks. Although the infection went away Im still fighting sinus problems and I will be forever. (sinus surgery years ago which now causes chronic sinus infections due to scar tissue) since being pregnant its been 10x worse.
I use the neti pot which really does seem to help. I try to do it at least once a week sometimes more and sometimes I go weeks without. It takes getting use to but its really not bad. I also use a humidifier at night so my throat doesnt dry out cause I cant breath through my nose!

Re: What can I do about my sinuses?
I have horrible allergies that always lead to sinus infections in the Winter. My Ear nose and Throat doctor suggested using a saline spray morning and night, it basically cleans out your nose to prevent build-up and sleeping with a humidifier. It has helped. If you do get an infection there are some antibiotics you can take while pregnant.
I was alos told that Mucinex is safe to use as well. I believe it was the kind in the blue box, but you might want to check with your dr on that.

Re: What can I do about my sinuses?
hon - i am the QUEEN of sinus infection after sinus infection...it normally takes two rounds of z-pack to kick a sinus infection for me...(which then leads to a yeast infection - MUCH fun)....
i've been taking Zyrtec every day and it's working for me....

Can I get Zyrtec over the counter?
I will try the saline spray, but honestly, I'm a weenie about nasal sprays (and ear drops, eye drops... )
Thanks ladies! If this continues past the weekend, we have our first OB visit on Monday, I'll ask the doc to prescribe me something.

Yes, zyrtec is over the counter. Just do me a favor and check with your OB, make sure it's fine with them. Mine okayed: Claritin, Zyrtec and Alovert - but make sure you get PLAIN versions...NOT Claritin PE or Zyrtec DE (no idea what the REAL initials are, but get PLAIN)...

My "Do's and Don'ts of Pregnancy" Book says antihistamines (claritan, allegra, zyrtec, ect) are OK! The only one I would check on is Singulair as it's actually a leukotriene (sp)?
FEEL BETTER!!!

Re: What can I do about my sinuses?
Thanks ladies!
I bought saline spray at Target on my lunch break. I'm waiting to get home to try it because I'll cry. Pathetic, isn't it? I'm 30 years old and cry like a baby when I have to put any sort of drops into my body!

I don't love sprays either. That is why the netipot worked well for me. You kind of pour it up your nose. Hope it works!

Re: What can I do about my sinuses?
I took the Z Pack (azithromycin) right after Christmas because of a nasty sinus infection. I also used saline spray, humidifier, hot showers, and Sudafed. Feel better!
