What are these phone calls about?
so lately I have been getting a TON of calls on my cell from numbers I dont' recognize. I never pick them up, just swipe them away, and they never leave a message so I assume telemarketers
I block them as I can, but they tend to be the same area code and first 3 digits but the last 4 digits varies daily so it's hard to block them.
Anyway, it was getting super annoying so I picked one up out of curiosity and didn't say anything . There was a pause, and then, Hi I'm Joe with a mortgage company calling about.... then CLICK. Disconnected.
The next day, same thing, Hi I'm Dave calling from an alarm monitoring company, how are you today? Then immediate disconnect.
Today, Hi, my name is Sarah and I am calling from a travel adviser on a recorded line...., CLICK.
I don't get it. These are recordings that sound like real people I guess but what is the point of just disconnecting mid sentence? Is it because I am not responding?
It is maddening and I'm trying to figure out their end game and what the point is.
Anyone else get these or know?

It doesn't seem to matter if you respond or not. I stayed on the line once and answered the question if this was something I would be interested. Said No. Still get the calls.

Oh holy hell !
It's been good for a while, then all of a sudden I get at least 3 calls per day.
I never answer, just swipe it away and block the number.
Just So Freaking Annoying.

yes.
this has been happening to me also. Sometimes I get half a message.
One time i was driving and used a pre-text that said I am busy.
So they wrote me back and said I called them and they were returning my call.
It makes me wonder if phone numbers are being phished out there.

What are these phone calls about?
They are probably they are trying to see if its a valid number with a real human, to resell it at a higher price.
Sort of like how back in the day if you unsubscribed from spam, you were a better value because it proved you were there and reading.

Me too. Been listening though and there is an option at end to state, do not call. so I wait, press 9 and get me off their list.

Me too. Been listening though and there is an option at end to state, do not call. so I wait and get me off their list.
The problem with the 3 or 4 I answered was they just disconnect. After 1 or 2 seconds, the call disconnects mid sentence of the "person" speaking.
So I can't even opt out
it's so damn odd

What are these phone calls about?
I heard something on the news a while ago about them (these types of calls), asking questions and they record your answers. Then they use YOUR voice, saying "yes" to something to say that you have accepted or purchased something. I forget the details, so not sure if this makes sense, but it was another way "they" have found to scam people. I will see if I can search for more info about what I heard

This doesn't work either, just like the do not call registry doesn't work.
Best just to ignore the calls and don't answer.
Wish NOMOROBO worked on cell phones. It is fantastic for the house phone.

then 10 from a travel company that apparently i stayed at their resort and won something. I havent been to a resort in close to 10 years

Wish NOMOROBO worked on cell phones. It is fantastic for the house phone.
Their website says it now works on the iPhone (ios 10) and coming soon to Android.

I've been getting them too. Mostly calls telling me how I can lower my electric bill. Yea why don't you pay it for me lol

I was getting 10 nonsense calls a day and I signed up for "Nomorobo" through Verizon and they have completely stopped. It's so lovely.

I read somewhere that the "Do Not Call" list is no longer active or maybe it was that these robo-callers have found a way to circumvent it. Whatever the reason, the DNC list is no longer effective.

It's terrible! It's all the time! I actually ran up the stairs to get the phone thinking it was an important call and it was one of these calls. I tripped and hurt myself.

Same. I just started getting them again. Put my number back on the do not call list and it pretty much stopped

If you have AT&T, download the "Call Protect" app. It will auto-block any phone number that is registered in the apps database, and you can also add numbers that slip through and haven't been recorded in database yet.
DH was getting 30 calls a day, along with text messages, and when I called AT&T, they advised to download this, as there is a known issue of fraudulent calls attempting to spoof customers to get personal information.

Her voice is SO chippy and annoying. I didn't realize it was a recording the first couple times "she" called. She does pause when you speak but then just continues on with the rambling script. I became so frustrated one time that I began yelling at her asking why she was ignoring my questions. LOL!!!

Too funny that it is a recording. I am nasty telling her not to call me again and there is silence and she just talks.

OMG! She just called. On phone with her now. Elizabeth this time. SAME annoying voice. I'm hanging on and when I get a live person I am going to tell them yet again to STOP calling.
When you ask her a question, she pauses , says "i'm sorry, i didn't get that" and then babbles on.
I am just answering sure to all her questions until I get a live rep.
