What are the (age) requirements for being a godparent?
I have time to think about this, but I would like my little sister to be my next/last child's godmother. I'm her's and we used DH's sister for both boys b/c we have no other immediate close women in our lives. She's 5 now. Do I have to wait for a 3rd until she's 15?

Our church says they must be at least 16 years old.

Re: What are the (age) requirements for being a godparent?
The dioceses just "upped" the age of confirmation till 8th grade (used to be 7th) , so thats about 14. They have to be confirmed Catholics to be godparents.

How strict is your church?
I know someone who had an aunt stand in her little sister's place.. but on the certificate, it reads her sister's name. ;)
No flames here please lol

I don't know about all churches but i'm a godmother to 3 nephews and a niece and I was never asked about sacraments...I never made my confirmation. These were all at different churches too. Rylans godparents were never asked either. I can't see age mattering either since I was never asked about that.

Right, but if she's 8 it'll be obvious she's not confirmed

I would think if it was a requirement they would ask EVERYONE...not just assume because they are old enough to be they were.
I would ask...it can't hurt. Like I said out of 5 churches age or confimation was never even mentioned.
