What age did you start with crayons?
I wanted to give DS some crayons and chalk to draw with. He's 13 1/2 months. I think he would like it, but he's still putting everything in his mouth!!
I guess along the same thinking - playdoo and other crafty items...

DD was the worst with putting things in her mouth. still is. she loves putting things in her mouth and chomping away on everything. I started crayons at 12 months and playdoh at 18 months. She has tried to bite the crayons a few times but never ever the playdoh!! I didn't hold back with introducing it because they arent toys I let her have open access to. It's always an "us" activity.

Thanks! So when she tried to put them in her mouth what did you do? He's starting to have a little temper so I don't want to make something that is fun turn into a tantrum. Welcome to toddlerhood I guess??

I just moved them out of her mouth. Didn't say much just emphasized how to correctly use the crayons. And then if it was repeatedly that I had to correct her, I'd tell her you can't put them in your mouth- if you do it again, I take it away. And I follow through. I had to take them away 1 or 2x but then she never put them in her mouth again. And she never tried with the sidewalk chalk or playdoh.

What age did you start with crayons?
I started at 13 months. My kid puts nothing in his mouth but he still tries to eat crayons at 20 months. Lol. I just take them out of his mouth and redirect him with them. He prefers painting.

We started DS with crayons early - around 11 months. He's 17 months now and he prefers drawing with a pen, but sometimes colors, too. He tried for a short time to put them in his mouth, but we just said no and he stopped. Each kid is different, so I'd just keep trying.

I think I started around a year with my DD. But last week I was babysitting my 10 month old niece and my DD was coloring so I gave my niece a crayon and she knew exactly what to do! Didn't even put it in her mouth. I was impressed haha.

DD2 is 17 months and we just started crayons with her. She scribbles but she tries to put it in her mouth so we really have to watch her.

What age did you start with crayons?
We started right after a year. Crayola makes these special crayons and markers specifically for that age group. They are fat and in the shape of characters so it's hard for them to put them in their mouth.

My Dd uses markers and crayons...she's is almost 15 months. She puts them in her mouth. I've seen recipes for edible finger paint I might try.

I used the Crayola extra washable mini markers instead. That way, I wasn't as worried if he chomped down before I got it out of his mouth. They also need less pressure and coordination with markers.

What age did you start with crayons?
Around 12-13 months with crayons. We did stickers pretty early too. Other stuff like play dough, stamps, finger paint, paint with water maybe closer to 20 months.
