What age for crayons?

I would love to start giving my DD some crayons but think its probably too soon as she would more than likely eat them!! She is just 12 months....any age recommendations?

Thanks

I gave RJ crayone around 15 months... he mostly tries to eat them- but now at just shy of 17 months.. he is really getting the hand of them!

Re: What age for crayons?

I have to say Julia was very good about not putting things in her mouth that she wasn't so post to, she's been using crayons since 11 months.

We would bring coloring books and crayons out with us to dinner so she wouldn't be bored.

Re: What age for crayons?

We have been using the crayons at restaurants since Emily was about a year old, and recently bought her a big coloring book and her own pack of crayons. I do have to say though that once the crayons were around more and were in the house she'd find them and end up coloring all over things. She colored on the TV cabinet! but you can barely see it!

She knows what to do with them, for sure. I think she just doesn't know WHERE to use them, and thinks it's cool to color on anything and everything!

I think at around a year they are fine, just with good supervision. Not something you want your baby to get a hold of when you are doing the dishes or something!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What age for crayons?

I tried giving dd crayons in the diner in FLorida since they were on the table...They kept going in the mouth she was only 8 months she scribbled a little, but she was just way to young. If you are there to supervise I say its ok, but if they are going in the mouth I would not give them yet.
