Weissbluth vs Ferber
What are some of the main differences? I know they are both CIO advocates, I am undecided which book to buy...

I bought the Weissbluth book...but never read it. I followed really basic CIO principles and its worked brilliantly for us. I think that I should have given Noah more credit than I had in the past...
So not much advice from me, but CIO does work.

I can't speak to Ferber because I did not read his book. I read Weissbluth and what I can tell you is that his sleep training methods really worked for us. The focus is not just on CIO, it's on napping and developing healthy sleep habits (like the title of the book  ). I highly recommend Weissbluth.

Ferber is all CIO, but recently has stated that it does not work for every baby.
Weissbluth advocates crying in 3 methods, either all out crying like Ferber so you get it over with, controlled crying where you go in over several days increasing the amount of time between crying sessions, and then he has a no cry method.
We tried CIO, didn't work well, maybe she was too young. Got the Weissbluth book and DD responded well to it. I think at the most she cried for 10 min and now she goes down right away after her bottle or will roll around and fuss sometimes, but no crying unless she's really ticked off, but that's almost never.
ETA: Weissbluth focuses on your babys' tired signs and emphasizes that infants have at most a 2 hr window that they stay awake. SO TRUE! Alyson STILL goes down about 1 1/2 hrs after she wakes up. Knowing her signals makes feeding on time and putting her down so much easier

I've been working off her cues more lately and I realize that around 2 hrs after waking she is tired again but I am trying to get her to settle herself down when she wakes up around 3 or 4AM instead of having to give her a pacifier or nurse her...

What we do is put Noah down in his crib, at the beginning he cried for around 25-30 minutes, then each night it got less and less, now he cries for anywhere between 4-6 minutes and falls asleep. Most nights we don't hear a peep from him until morning, so when he falls asleep on his own, its a much better sleep.
Maybe I should read the book then...Noah rarely naps.

She goes down with no problem every night awake and puts herself to sleep... it's the naps and the middle of the night that is the problem.
