weird question...buying a child a used present off of craigslist
I know, tacky.
but, the boy I watch, his parents just bought a new house today.
My last day watching him is Friday(his mom works for the schools)
I was going to have a graduation party for him Friday and get him a GC from Josh to decorate his room as his graduation gift.
They are totally going to be house poor for a long time.
Hanging out at the park with her one day, she mentions her dream picnic table for her yard for the boy.
I see it on craigs list for 1/3 of the price.
should that be his graduation gift? its the same price that I was going to get GC for.

she would never in a million years email someone, plan the meet up for the table and all that.
not a shopper at all. if its not a bjs when they go twice a month, its not going to happen.
she has all these backyard plans and I know they are going to be strapped...so it would be like checking one item off the list.
there is no way I would spend 90.00 on the table though.

Honostly, as long as it's in good condition I don't see why not. I think it's sweet of you to think of her family at a time when you know they will be financially strapped. I know if I were in that situation, I would appreciate anything for my child, especially if I would never be able to afford it myself.

I would never buy a used gift, BUT in this case I think I would. Explain the reasoning behind it to her. Tell her that you couldn't afford the gift otherwise and it was exactly what she wanted. The thought really went into this.

thanks! she would FLIP if I paid 90.00 on a present. she isn't into that at all. then she would feel like she owed josh an expensive b-day present.

ITA agree with the ladies Janice.... I would never buy a used gift, BUT, in this situation... it seems like the best avenue for all concerned!
