Weight Gain Question
I am in my 13th week.
I have only gained 2 pounds so far.
DH. DH's BF and my MIL keep insisting that I am not eating enough for the baby, because 2 pounds is nothing.
I read that people with a healthy BMI don't/shouldn't gain weight in the first trimester.
I feel like I am eating as much as I can, and it is not my fault I can't keep what I do eat down. I don't want to throw up.
Is it bad that I only gained 2 pounds? I thought it was a decent amount...

Re: Weight Gain Question
don't listen to them, I wish I gained so little in the first trimester! Your doctor will let you know if there is a problem but it's normal not to gain very much or ANY in the first trimester

Re: Weight Gain Question
Don't worry about it! You have to realize that everyone has their own opinions about what you HAVE to do while pregnant but the only person you should always listen to is your doctor. Don't let anyone stress you out. I never had MS but actually lost a few lbs in my first trimester because in the summer I tend to put on a few extra and I conceived toward the end of the summer. My body just had to even itself out before I could gain "baby weight". Chin up and a happy and healthy pregnancy to you!

Re: Weight Gain Question
Dont feel bad, I was the same way. My doctor never seemed concerned. She actually told me at my first appt that for my body type she would recommend gaining 5 lbs in my first 20 weeks and a lb a week from then on. I think I was up exactly 5 lbs at 20 wks and I am up 13 at 27 weeks so I am pretty please with that.
ETA- DH was on my case all the time telling me I needed to eat more. I still tell him he knows nothing about being pregnant so shutty

Re: Weight Gain Question
A lot of people don't gain weight in the first trimester esp. If they have m/s.
Good for you that you are on the low end! The weight will creep up, no worries!
I gained 8 pounds in one week with DD in my third trimester! I almost fell over when my doctor told me!

Re: Weight Gain Question
You're fine. Don't worry what people say, unless your doctor is concerned, there's no reason for anyone to be.
I lost about 10lbs in the first 12 weeks, which made me a bit underweight, and didn't start gaining back until about 18 weeks. My doctor was never concerned. As long as you're eating and drinking enough, you and baby will be fine

Re: Weight Gain Question
I naturally have a thin frame and I didnt gain any weight in the first trimester. In fact I lost like 2-3 lbs because I was so nauseas that it was hard for me to eat a lot. Im just about to be 20 weeks and so far have only gained about 5-7 lbs tops... My Dr says its completely normal and baby is ok... The baby will get ALL the nutrients it needs, its you that ends up lacking nutrients if your not getting enough. BUT if your taking your pre-natal vitamins and drinking lots of water, your ok, your getting the necessary nutrients! Dont worry! People are going to give you TONS of advice about whats right and wrong, you have to do whats best for you and follow what your Dr says...

Re: Weight Gain Question
Don't listen to them. I was up 2lbs at 20 weeks and my Dr said it was totally fine. Now at 35 weeks you would think I am gaining weight for sport its coming on so fast! . Your body is going to do what it needs to do and as long as LO is healthy and measuring on track that's all that matters!

Re: Weight Gain Question
No, they are wrong. You shouldn't gain any weight your 1st trimester. Most of the weight is in the third.

Re: Weight Gain Question
Don't listen to them! With my first pregnancy I only gained 12 pounds total and never even wore maternity clothes. With this pregnancy I am 23 weeks and up 4 pounds and still im my regular clothes ! My doctors said I am doing great and that's all that matters ! I know how you feel, I hear it from everyone all the time !

Don't listen to them! 1-2 lbs is totally normal for 1st tri. I'm 33ish weeks and am only up 9 lbs. All that matters is the 2 of you are healthy.

Re: Weight Gain Question
Ugh, I hate when people give their 2 cents. What has your Dr. said? Honestly, I think 2 lbs at this point is fine. You are not hurting the baby and the baby is getting EVERYTHING it needs from you.

Re: Weight Gain Question
Don't listen to them, listen to your doctor.
I haven't gained 1 lb and I'm 21 weeks. I thought I gained 3, but I weighed myself this AM and I'm at my pre-pregnancy weight again. Plus I just had a dr appt and everything looked great, baby was measuring normal.
Pay no attention to them.

Re: Weight Gain Question
your body will know when you are hungry. if you only gained that much Congrats. For me at 20 weeks I gained only ten. My friend lost 10lbs in the first 12 weeks and she was just fine. As long as your not dieting your fine IMO
