"wedge" sleep positioners - when did you stop using?

I still use the sleep positioner for Tommy - the one where you lay the baby in between the 2 foam wedges. First he gets swaddled (1 arm out - thumb sucker!) But lately when I go in to get him in the morning, the positioner is on an angle or something from him squirming around. He will be 12 wks on Tuesday. He has not rolled over yet. Do you think it's time to retire it?

Eta: its the foam one with the air vents on the side. I don't have any bumpers on the crib but I am going to put up the breathable bumpers

When DD started doing this, I felt it was time to get rid of it. I think she was a little over 2 1/2 months. She would get swaddled in the middle, and in the morning, she'd be all the way down in her crib, at the end of the positioner. IMO, you're better off getting rid of it sooner than later Chat Icon

I asked ped this very question at DD's 8 week visit. She was swaddled and sleeping in a sleep positioner (wedge with two foam sides). I told them that I would go in and she would be at the bottom off the crib not on the positioner at all. She would even break the swaddle!

They suggested getting rid of both the swaddle and the sleep positioner. We went from sleeping 7-8 hours in a row, down to 5 for a few days, but then we were right back up at 6 hours in a row after a week. This is the third week unswaddled and not on the sleep positioner and we went to 7 hours in a row.

I say get rid of it!

I retired ours around the same time for the same reasons.

DD still uses her wedge sleep positioner, she won't sleep without it. She is outgrowing it now, we are going to have a hard time getting her to sleep without it. She is 11 weeks.

we retired ours at 3 weeks - we have a very squirmy boy. He's also been turning over since that time though.

I would say it's time to ditch it! Chat Icon

I can tell he wants to turn over - he tries...should I be worried?

What about swaddling? Should I do both arms out maybe? He usually gets both out by morning.

We tried stopping it at 3 mos and she wasn't having any of it, so we stopped at 4 months when she tried rolling over on the sides of itChat Icon
