wedding guest thief spinoff with poll-Do you put cash in the envelope?
We put a check in the envelope. There have been times in the past when we used cash but I had a friend whose card was stolen at a wedding she went to and I find that these stories are becoming more frequent.

I do cash normally because they don't have to worry about deposits and when we were married all the checks were in our married name, and I didn't get to change my name until we were home from the honeymoon so we couldn't cash them. In the future I may just write it out to the person who invited us, and in the memo write Congratulations. If it is a Bride I will do her maiden name.

I NEVER do cash — too easy to steal! We always do a check in the name of a couple. I can't tell you how many times I heard from various catering halls and restaurants vendors that giving cash is a bad, bad idea simply because it is SO easy to make it disappear without a trace!

Check. To get cash I would need to remember to go the bank first, which is not happening since I very rarely go.

Check. That way I know they received it when they cash it.

I never used to do a check because they can't open a joint checking account until she changes her name and they go to the bank to open a joint account which they may not do right away. Now I just make a check to whoever I’m friends with, either the bride or groom depending, just so they don't have a bank hassle

This exactly- a check to whoever I am friends/family with.
I would not give cash. At our wedding, someone's gift got lost somehow. They wrote us a new check. If it were cash, it would have been gone.

Never written a check; always give Cash, and I give it to the bride/groom directly in their hand.

Always a check made out to the couple! Too dangerous IMO to take the chance that it could end up in the wrong hands....

Most of the times I do soley a check.
But in the past I've done half cash / half check.....just so the couple has the option to use the cash on their honeymoom if need be and put the check into savings after the wedding.

Cash and I'll keep giving cash (take my chances). I think it's easier for the couple.

Re: wedding guest thief spinoff with poll-Do you put cash in the envelope?
Always a check. And when I got married I preferred a check as well. I was so paranoid having all that cash laying around we went to the bank the very next day to deposit all the cash. If I had all checks I would have just waited a few day and not worried about it.
Also we opened a joint account months before we were married and deposited all the checks into the account with no issues...even the ones that were made out to Mr and Mrs....

Check.
But, at my wedding last month, I was surprised to see that about 75% of our cards had cash in it! If our card box was stolen, they would have made out with about $20k!!

I do cash because I hate having to wait forever for the check to clear after the honeymoon. I just make sure we give them the card or put it in the box ASAP so it's out of our hands!
