Weaning off of pacifer
DS is 2 and he will not give up his binkie for anything! A lot of times he even talks with it. My m.i.l. and mom give it to him every time he asks for it even when I tell them not to. Anyone have any good ways that I can try to wean him off of the pacifier?

Weaning off of pacifer
I'm probably not any help but i just did it cold turkey. It was rough the first few days, maybe week. But after that my DD was fine. DS gave it up willingly at 1 1/2. His twin sister, not so much. I was told by family that I need to wait until he's ready and i responded with, well i'm ready and so is his pediatrician and i would make sure that no bonkies were around for anyone to give him. Good luck!!

We did the only in the crib thing. My DD's could only have it in the crib. One day they turned around and told me that they are big girls and dont need it anymore. Both around 2.5.

Weaning off of pacifer
Thanks for your replies and advice! I wish DS would say that he's a big boy and he doesn't need one any more, but I don't think he'll ever give that binkie up lol. :( But I'm crossing my fingers that he will.
I'm going to ask them to hide the binkies (that what dh and I do at home). Out of sight out of mind. Hopefully that will work. The pedi. actually told us that when he's ready he'll let us know and stop I hope so! I prefer to do it that way. When ds doesn't get his binkie when he sees it he has a temper tantrum so I may just wait it out. Thanks ladies! :)

Weaning off of pacifer
My son just turned 2 and he threw it in the garbage last week. I was shocked! It had a hole in it and he said it was broken. Of course, when it was bedtime he begged for it back. I told him the garbage truck took it away. He asked for 2 more days, but now he stopped. It takes him a little longer to fall asleep now, but besides that hes fine. Good luck!

Re: Weaning off of pacifer
We had a really, really , really hard time getting DD off of it. She was 3 1/2. We tried a lot of the basics, cutting off the tops, mailing them to the mimi fairy, etc. She finally accepted that she couldn't have a mimi anymore, but she just couldnt fall asleep without it, she couldn't soothe herself. She would cry and cry that she was tired and she just couldnt fall asleep. My heart broke for her and after a torturous amount of time I would give one to her.
DD loves parties. So I told her that if she got rid of her mimi's we would throw her a "no more mimi's party". So we made a chart for her to check off each day and it really motivated her. The day before her party I took her to the dollar store and let her pick out any decorations and then the next day we haveimmediate family over to celebrate. I kept reminding her why we were having the party. She loved it and it worked for us.
But the first night , again, she couldn't fall asleep , so we rubbed her back and sat with her. We did that for a few night and then we didn't need to anymore.

Weaning off of pacifer
DS is 20 months and never asks for it during the day, but is hopelessly addicted to it at night. I need to start weaning him off of it, thanks for the suggestions!

That is such a great and fun idea! Especially letting her pick out her own decorations, adorable!

Re: Weaning off of pacifer
My oldest ds was two in november and we just got rid of it four days ago. I cut the tip off when he wasn't looking and when he said "uh oh" i said "it's broken. no more binky." The first day I kept the broken binky laying around. He put it in his mouth, played with it, etc and wouldn't take a nap. The first night was a bit of a challenge but we made it. I just comforted him and let him cry. Day two, he didn't ask for a binky in the morning so i threw them out. He asked for it once during the day and i told him it was broken remember and told him no more binky. I asked everyone to clap and make a big deal when we would tell them he no longer needed a binky. The second night and every day since has been great. I have another ds who is 9 months and still has a binky but not the type my oldest took so he doesn't even make a big deal. I just say " Give your baby his binky ". I thought I would never be able to successfully get rid of the binky since he was SO attached but so far so good and i'm sticking to it.

That is an awesome idea!! Thanks! I'm going to try that and see if that works with DS.

Weaning off of pacifer
DD2 is 2 and was the same way. The binky in her mouth 24/7, talking with it, bringing it to dinner even (she has wubbanubs so they're also stuffed animals) We decided to limit the binky to nap/bedtime, and that was rough the first two days but now she doesn't ask for it unless she is tired. We did cut the binky off of one of the wubbanubs and that seems to be the security part she looks for
We rewarded her with a present for no more binky and she was SO PROUD of herself.
We are waiting another week and then will pull the binky at naps/night and she will get another surprise when she stops asking for it.

Weaning off of pacifer
Cold turkey during the day. Only allow at night. Ten after two weeks I threw out all pacifiers. My son was over it after the third night. I got rid of them bc if I saved any I would be tempted to give it to him. It makes our life easier, they will get used to the change.

Also people put holes in the with a pin. One hole every day day.
Other people have had the binky fairy come. Put all pacifier in a box and in the morning hey are gone but a present is there.

Re: Weaning off of pacifer
For ds #1 it got sticky (maple syrup) and we couldn't clean it off :) and had to be thrown out..
If you aren't ready to give it up at night my other ds we tell him the pacie fairy takes it in the morning and the pacie truck comes back at bedtime. It has been working so he only has it for bed now - which we need to end as well.

Re: Weaning off of pacifer
I poked holes in it and he thought he was making the holes because he just turned 2 years old. He threw it in the garbage and only cried for it once. I kept telling him he is becoming a BIG BOY and that made him very happy.
Good luck!
