We have a meeting tomorrow with a person to watch Troy and I need to know if the following is "Ok" to ask!

Okay, it's an older lady, dont know her exact age, but I know she has grandkids. I have not met her yet, she is a friend of my SIL's friend.

She said (on the phone) that she could watch Troy at her house (5 mon from our house) or our house. I love the idea of him staying at home. Here are a few of my questions (I have more) and want to know if you guys htink these are "ok" to ask.

If she watched Troy in her home, can I ask-
-Who lives with you?
-Do you have any pets?


Either way, can I ask-
-Do you have any medical conditions?
-Do you take any medications?
-Do you smoke?

If you're asking if they are illegal to ask for a "job interview", the answer is yes as they don't normally pertain to a business.

However every single one of those questions are completely valid & I would ask it.

You want to know who is in her home during the course of the day because your child is there. You haven't met them & don't know their background.

I would change the medical question to "Do you have any medical conditions that would interfere or affect you caring for my child?"

To tell you the truth...In my early 20's I was a nanny and the people gave me a 20 question witten survey which IMO is WAY easier and moe accuate then both parties staring at one another and forgetting questions and answers. You can overlook all the questions she answers and then get a clearer more accuate pics of what to ask from there. The family I worked with 10 yrs ago were in my wedding party and we are VERY close today. I remember some of the questions were like what is a typical day like with a toddler? What type of shows are appropiate for a ...yr old? All these questions help in knowing if they know what they are doing and are up to date with children. Also, remember it is all written on paper God Forbid you have a problem. HTH

FYI It's not illegal to ask if someone smokes and to not hire someone because they smoke
