We got Bunnies under my deck...
no clue where this bunny came from,(i personally think it was someones pet who they just let it go.. big jerk)
He/she lives under my deck, and Cody wants to eat him. I hope cody doesnt get him. He comes out and cody chases him all over yard, and bunny crashed into the childrens swing and kept going.
My dad was going to buy a cage and catch him so we can bring him/her to the park and let her/him go. but cages are exspensive. We dont want to call just anyone to catch it, b/c we dont want them to destroy it. Any Suggestions on who to call? I told my dad to call ASPCA.

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
Bringing him to a park is no only cruel and inhumane, it is against the law.
Go to Petfinder.com and put in your zip code and search rabbit rescue. You can also go to the search engine of the web and search rabbit rescue. If they know you are going to put the rabbit in the park where it is subject to weather, possibly attack by raccoon or dogs and of course no food source more than likely they will come and rescue the rabbit. Bring to a park?????????? This is by far the worst I have heard.

If you are worried about your dog eating him, an animal in the park would do the same. Rabbits breed very quickly so try to do what
Lifeisgreat suggested.

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
Thank you BabySammie.
No doubt the rabbit is very cold outside and very hungry. It was running from the dog in a state of panic and possibly injured itself on the swing. It is terrified. The humane thing to do is set up a feeding station for the rabbit, borrow a trap from a local rescue and then contact rabbit rescue. The law is that if you find an animal and then abandon you can be arrested. How can someone dump the rabbit at the park and then go home to their warm home knowing they left a defenseless animal to care for itself. Yes it is a possibility someone dumped the rabbit it could also be lost, but two wrongs do not make a right. The rabbit would be better off euthanized humanely than subjected to a slow and agnozing death on the street.

Sorry meant to say Thank you Goobster.
It is a possiblity it is a wild rabbit, but that does not take away from the fact that abandoning an animal in a park is cruel, inhumane and against the law. It is easy to distinguish between wild and domestic rabbits.

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
Please, whatever you do, do NOT put the rabbit into a park....a domesticated rabbit CANNOT survive outside in the wilderness.....they don't eat the same as a wild rabbit does and will definitely be attacked by another animal...they don't have the defense mechanisms that a wild rabbit has. I am an avid rabbit lover and it breaks my heart to hear that you would put it into a park. I understand your logic, but whatever you do, you will expose the rabbit to more danger if you do that. You can call the.....Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group and they I'm sure would be more likely to help you. They deal with these cases often. There number is: (516) 640-0635 or (516) 487-4898 E-mail: [email protected]
I wish you the best of luck and hope that this poor rabbit will be saved in time. Please keep us all updated

If you think it is a pet, try the House Rabbits Society, maybe they have suggestions re: a local rescue organization.http://www.rabbit.org/

How can we distinguish b/w wild and domestic? Fur color alone? Please tell!

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
Usually by the fur color.....a domesticated rabbit can be mottled, solid, etc. It also has a different body frame. I've noticed that wild rabbits have a pointer snout/nose and the body is longer and thinner. This is based on opinion. Some times wild rabbits if they are bunnies seem to be smaller...you also can't usually get close enough to them, as you would a domesticated rabbit. In either case, whether it be wild or domesticated, I would still try to contact the rabbit association and leave it up to them....they will make a rescue if need be. And it's regular people....I don't think they cost you to come and do the work....

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
Rescue people are not regular people, they are saints that do what most do not, step to the plate and save the lives of innocent animals. They have outrageous vet, medical, food and boarding bills. More than likely they will not ask you for a penny when they drive to your home on weekend, weekday, holiday or any day or time of day or night. Is it the right thing to make a donation, absolutely..after all they are not regular people, they are the difference between life and death for an animal.

You are right, the rescue people definitely are saints....they save animals. I didn't mean that they are just regular people. I was trying to say that they will go out of their way to save animals and usually don't look for any thing for it...they do a darn good job at what they do and I give them tons of credit. They make all of the difference in an animals life

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
Thank you. I cannot tell you how many times I have received a call from a dog or cat owner saying I want you to come and get my dog or cat now or I am going to put it on the street. A month ago received a call from a man at 6:45 am to say he was closing on an apartment, just sold his house and he needed to get rid of his 6 year old pit bull on that day. Sickening.

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
Okay first of all, I was asking for advice, and dont need to Shouted out that im being cruel to this bunny.. I was trying to do the right thing and avoid it being injured by my dog, or neighbors dog or possibly a CAR.. I LOVE ALL ANIMALS and would never hurt one. I thought since there were other bunnies in the park by my house that it would be a good place for him/her. I was not aware it was against the law, and didnt think of being injured or killed by other wild life.
The post with the bunny # Thank you, for i will be calling them in the morning and seeing if they can help me.

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
Do you live on the island? My dh works with a guy who does animal rescue, he is always in the papers rescuing all sorts of animals. If you still need help I could ask my husband to ask him if he knows what you could do.

Re: We got Bunnies under my deck...
It was not shouting, it was the truth. Why would anyone think it is okay to put abandon an animal in a park. Yes, sadly there are other homeless rabbits in the park, that in itself should be the clue. It is so simple to go on the web and search rabbit rescue.
