We closed and moved in!

Closing went very smooth on Friday and we are fully moved in.

Just have about 40 boxes everywhere.

Thanks for everyone's purchasing advice!

First question- They had 2 dogs and we are trying to rid our home of the smell.

We had the carpets professionally cleaned on saturday and on sunday had every window open for ventilation.

It still smells in the den- where the carpet is.

What can we do- we arent prepared to rip out the carpets for a couple of months.

Thanks!

Regarding the smell...ugh...maybe get one of the Arm & Hammer carpet powders for Pets, or Febreeze it to death...but I think inevitably...it needs to be replaced.

Nature's Miracle (available in pet stores) neutralizes pet odors. It's usually used on the site of pet accidents but since the whole carpet smells maybe you can spray it all over the room and see if that works.

Re: We closed and moved in!

congratulations!

are there hardwood floors under the carpet? if their pets were urinating on the carpet, there is a chance it could have gotten into the wood and then it will be very hard to get rid of.

but chances are its just in the carpet and if you rip them up the smell will go away. try the pet neutralizing stuf (you can get in a pet store) and also an air purifier might work to get rid of some of the smell.

Congrats on moving in

You are probably going to have to remove the carpet now if you want to remove that smell. You can clean it and deodarize it as much as you want but the smell will still be there after the sprays wear off.

Congrats on moving in!!!

I would try rug deodorizers and if that doesn't work, I would rip them out.

We are dog people so the smell doesn't bother me, but I would first try spraying a neutralizer before you rip up the carpets. YOU DON"T HAVE TO RIP UP THE CARPETS!!

Re: We closed and moved in!

They have pet sprays that you can use that should help remove the odor.

Congrats on the new home!

As for the smell, try an air purifier. We did that for the apt b/c it reaked of smoke and it emilinated the odor.
