Ways to reduce junk mail
I saw this in a magazine when I was at the dr's office. I know I get TONS of junk mail and I cannot stand it.
catalogchoice.org to get rid of unwanted catalogs
dmachoice.org/mps to remove your name from Direct Marketing Assocation mailing lists
optoutprescreen.com to stop receiving credit car and insurance offers

Re: Ways to reduce junk mail
We're torn. DW used to work for the USPS, so we know that the bulk business mail is a huge source of income for the USPS. If everyone stops getting "junk mail", regular postage will go up tremendously, and it could affect the jobs of some of her former coworkers.
I'm all for saving the environment, but I also don't want my postage to go up that much that fast, and I really don't want to see people's jobs affected.

Although I see your point...
to the contrary, would our interest rates on credit cards or prices for things through a catalog be CHEAPER if we they didn't pay so much postage for marketing?

Also a valid point....that's why I'm torn. But also on the topic of companies distributing less or no catalogs, that would also mean less jobs, since each company wouldn't need someone to do all the work involved in sending the catalogs out. Everything in society is tied to innumerous other things. It would be great if just stopping junk mail did nothing but good things, but there are downsides as well.... I'm definitely not saying you're wrong, or even that I'm right, I'm just saying that it's complicated....

I'm in a similar position. Part of my job involves direct mail marketing, but I hate junk mail!
I feel like such a hypocrite when I am removing myself from mailing lists & then coming to work & get all annoyed when someone wants to be removed from a mailing list.
And yes, if direct mail didn't exist at all, it would cut out a lot of of jobs--paper suppliers, printers, designers, warehousers, mailing list rental companies, mailing houses, in addition to the company trying to sell the product/services.
