Watery eyes?

DD is 10 weeks and just today I noticed her eyes have been very watery. The left one in the inside corner has had some discharge, but not a lot. Her eye itself is not red and the upper and lower lids aren't red either. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Re: Watery eyes?

It could be a clogged or narrow tear duct. You should mention it to the ped. Most often it resolves on its own, but it should be monitored. You also might notice an increase in watery eyes when she takes a bottle.

What your describing is normal. Their tear ducts are beginning to work (you'll now notice real tears when she cries) the discharge is from the duct itself. Take a warm washcloth and gently rub it away. If any red or puffiness occurs then I would call the dr.

Re: Watery eyes?

May sound nuts, but I tell you it works... if you're BF then you can put a drop of BM in the corner of the eye. I tell you it cleared up my DS's clogged tear duct.
I thought my mom was crazy when she brought it up. Especially since she didn't BF any of us, but she did some research then I did some research and asked on LIF as well. It worked.

It could be nothing too and she's getting her tears so you can wait too.

Re: Watery eyes?

Both my kids had clogged tear ducts. It's quite common and usually resolves on it's own. My son's cleared up by the time he was 3 mos. My daughter is 6 mos today and while it's gotten better, she still tears up daily.

Your Ped will show you the proper way to massage the inner corner of her eye to help unclog the duct.

This.

My son had the same thing and this is all it was. If you're still unsure tho, call the ped. :)
