Washing hands

How old was your dc when you stopped asking people to wash their hands before holding? Dd is now 3 months and I still wash my hands frequently throughout the day and my family washes up before holding her without me having to ask them...dh's family on the other hand needs to be reminded or they won't do it (they think its absurd)...or mil will wash her hands and then pass the baby around to family members without asking me (which drives me nuts) who have not washed up...am I being too overprotective at this point? Or is it reasonable to me to insist, as it is extremely important to me??

You answered your own question, IMO. You said it is extremely important to you. That's all that should matter. End of story. Your baby, and the onlypeople whose opinions should matter right now are yours and your husband's. I personally probably stopped asking people to wash up around a month or so. But I know that I am very laid back. If someone else asked me to wash up before holding their 3 month old, I wouldn't even bat an eye, I would oblige. I think it's perfectly reasonable to ask, especially as we are getting into fall and winter and all the illnesses that come with it.

I don't remember when I stopped asking, but at 3 months I defintely still very conscious of avoiding germs around dd. especially since it was during the winter. I think by the time she was around 5 or 6 months I started to worry a little less and stopped asking people to wash their hands before they hold her, and that was mostly because we were past the cold/flu season. But like the PP said, you have to go with what makes you comfortable because its your child.

For me, it depends on the season. being that it's cold and flu season , I agree with you about the hand washing. My ds was passed around a lot but never sick. People usually wash or purell without me having to ask
