Was I rude...

To ask my MIL not to eat toast in the guest bed. My FIL was going to bring her toast and tea in bed. I don't think that eating should be done in the bedroom.

She wasn't offended in the least, but I just want to know what you guys would do.

She was rude to assume it was okay to eat in the bedroom. Crumbs and bed do not mix. You were not rude at all.

Re: Was I rude...

You have every right to make that request in your house. So, no ... I don't think you were rude. However, something like that wouldn't bother me in my house.

Not rude, it's your home. Besides you are family it should be ok to say how you feel.

Re: Was I rude...

Is she sick? Was she relaxing? Personally I dont see ahuge deal about it, I would try to make my guests feel comfy and I assume when she leaves u will be washing all the sheets anyway. I dont think u were rude but I dont think its that big of a deal either

No she was just getting ready in the morning. I just personally don't think that eating belongs in the bedroom...I don't eat in bed, and unless you were a child sick in bed, eating belongs in the living areas. When I asked her to come downstairs she was totally fine about it...no problems at all there.

There wasn't a big deal about it at all...she was lovely when I asked her to come downstairs. I was just wondering if I was in line or out of line!!!

Re: Was I rude...

According to DH, the bed is the "sterile zone" Chat Icon, so yeah, I don't think it's rude at all if you ask her to refrain. Food and bed do not mix, unless you're talking about whipped cream and chocolate syrup Chat Icon

Re: Was I rude...

Unless it's a preggo suffering from MS.... I don't condone eating in bed unless it's a special occasion.... U know - like a breakfast in bed situation.

I don't think it was rude, but I probably would not care. You are going to wash the sheets anyway...

i dont think it was rude BUT i would never do something like that

I would want any guest in my home to feel as comfortable as possible so I dont think I would be able to tell them what to do or not to do
