I'm so sorry. I watched a close cousin die of cancer in 2006 after she was in remission for a while. The cancer won out  The last thing she said to DH (FH at the time) was "take good care of my girl"
She was also in her 50's and such a fabulous person. I spent Thanksgiving at her house for about 20 years as did 100+ others since she fed the world for holidays.
I agree, the really great people seem to have a shorter life.
