Want to switch OB's - Rec yours??

So I just found out that I am pregnant with my second, due Jan. 2012.

*Can you recommend your OBGYN?
*Where do they deliver?
*Do they do sonos in office/just one location of a branch?
*Do they draw blood in office or do you go elsewhere?
*Do you really feel like your doc/nurses know you?
*Do they have nighttime/weekend hours? I work until 4 everyday, and going during work is not easy for me to get off leave for an hour or two.

I think I want to switch OB's to a smaller practice. I'm in eastern suffolk and go to Suffolk OBGYN.

I didn't necessarily have a bad experience with them, but I think I want somewhere that doesn't have 12 doctors that deliver babies.

This time I have a few more health concerns that I want to be addressed each visit and I don't want to have to make sure to retell my story each time I see a new doctor.

Can you recommend your Doc???

Thanks!!!!

Re: Want to switch OB's - Rec yours??

I used to go to Suffolk OBGYN and then followed Cecilia to Dr. Ninia's practice. I absolutely LOVE them.

Dr. Ninia will deliver at either St. Charles or Stony Brook University (probably Mather too).

They do the sonograms in their office. They only have one office (it's in Port Jeff Station off of Route 347).

They do not draw blood in the office.

They are fantastic. I feel like they truly know me. I always see Cecilia (NP) and I see Dr. Ninia toward the third tri-mester. She remembers every conversation I had with her. Always ask about my husband by name. When I told her one of the twins was autistic, she spent an extra 20-minutes with me (I have three kids). I couldn't believe it! I'm sure the next patient wasn't thrilled. HA

The staff is awesome too. Each one of them is pleasant and I never have a long wait. I highly recommend them.

I believe there is another woman doctor in the office as well. I never had an appointment with her. If you can meet Cecilia, you will instantly feel comfortable.

Dr. David Reavis- office is in Patchogue (on the border of Holbrook). He delivers at Stony Brook. Sonograms including 3D are done in office, and so far he has done one every appointment, we asked at the last one. Not sure about blood work, b/c I had that done before I switched to him. He is the only doctor there, so I do feel he knows his patients, but b/c of this wait time can be an issue. I usually go see him after work on Tuesdays so I'm okay waiting. But for indepth sonos with the tech, you have to go Thursday days, my anatomy scan is Thursday day, then I will meet with him the next Tuesday evening. He loves his 3D machine, and is very laid back.

Re: Want to switch OB's - Rec yours??

I see Doctor Lustberg in Huntington. It's a private practice and he delivers out of Huntington Hospital (which was a top priority for me when looking for an OB). There is one nurse in the morning and one in the evening. I typically have evening appointments so I always see the same nurse and she knows us and pretty much everyone who walks in the door Chat Icon . All routine bloodwork and sonos are done there however your Ultrascreen and Level II are done at Huntington Hospital in the Women's Center. That was always a pleasant experience for me.

I always get a call back from the Dr. within the hour for regular questions and within minutes for anything a bit more alarming. And I never have trouble with appointments. FM me if you would like any more info Chat Icon

I'm going to Dr. Wagner of WGM. It's him & 1 other Dr. They have 2 offices. 1 in E. northport & 1 in Huntington, so they deliver in Huntington (not sure if anywhere else too..). I love Dr Wagner, he is great & I feel like he takes time with me & explains things.

I will admit that I was not impressed with the E. Northport staff at first (really just 1 person in particular - I was sent away twice in the beginning because she forgot to run the pre-auth on my ins for a sono) but I like everyone else & really like the Huntington office. Chat Icon

They do have evening hours available. They do sonos & bloodwork in the office. There was only 1 thing I had to go to a lab for & that was because the blood for that test had to be tested immediately.

I go to Dr. San Roman in Port Jeff Station, he is amazing and so is his staff.

He delivers at St Charles, does all his sonos and blood work in office, they have evening hours mon-thurs I believe. I don't think they're open Sat and Sun.

He also works with a nurse midwife Michelle Mayer (amazing as well) and if he is not on call when you go into labor there is a possibility she will deliver you, unless you have scheduled induction or c section.

FM me for more info!

I used to go here, and while I like Dr wagner, their office screwed up my test results A LOT and the office staff is so rude! the waits are long in e.northport. I tested positive on my pap 2x and no one did anything. my new ob found out when he requested records, -which was another nightmare to get! I didn't always see dr wagner, I saw a dr that left the pratice, so some of the stress had to do with that dr

I see Dr. Porte at Stony brook OBGYN. The practice consists of 5 doctors...all very good but my favs are Dr, Porte and Dr. O'Keefe. They have offices in E. Setauket, Rocky Point and Sayville. they deliver in Stony Brook.

I'm considrered somewhat high-risk because i suffer from chronic high blood pressure and I'm overweight (obese). Dr. Porte delviered DS #1 and will deliver DC#2 in Oct. He really takes time to answer all my questions and concerns and took great precaution with me when I was pregnant with DS#1 and now with this one.

I also wanted to advise the OP being board certifed was very important to me when I considered a new ob. like you I needed a dr with extended office hours, and I wanted to deliver at a certain hospital.

And as for blood work at the office, some dr's can do but your insaurance won't pay for it. that's they way mine is (Empire)

good luck with your search!!

Three Village Women's Health! They have offices in Patchogue (in same develoment as Suffolk OBGYN) and in Setauket.

They deliver at Stonybrook Hospital

They do sonos in both offices but recommend to go to the Setauket office for like the 20 week and growth sono because their machines are better. Other tests like the NT scan are done in a separate office through Stonybrook.
They do not draw blood in the office but Quest is located in the same development if you go to the Patchogue office so it wasn't bad.

Yes I feel like the docs and nurses know me, especially at this point when I am going every week. The nurses are so sweet and even know they need to take my blood pressure twice because I have white coat syndrome! I have met all the doctors because they encourage this since you do not know who will deliver your baby. Some I know better than others just because I have seen them more.

I am not too sure about the hours of the office..I know the Setauket office has later hours because I have had 5 and even 6 pm appt times. Check out their website though!

I go to Dr. Livoti in West Islip, he delivers at Good Sam...he's a sole practitioner.

I travel from the Hamptons area to West Islip because I love him so much, I couldn't even consider switching when we moved back out this way

ETS - They have a sono tech that works in their office Monday NIGHTS (starting at 4pm) and Dr. is in Thursday night. I work until 4 or 5pm in Southampton, so there is no way I could make daytime appointments every time.

THey did send me to Madonna in Brightwaters for my Level I and I had the option of going there for my Seq Screen and LEvel II (and Madonna has Saturday hours). But I am actually going to do both of those in the office with their sono tech.

As for blood, I usually go somewhere close to home (LabCorp who has early morning and Saturday hours) and the results are sent there.

Re: Want to switch OB's - Rec yours??

I see Dr Halpert at Personal Womans Care in Smithtown. There is another dr there Dr Sommers. Dr halpert has always been my preference just bc hes more down to earth and friendly but Dr sommers is also very professinal and nice. Everytime I am there the staff is friendly and always apologetic when there is a wait. Day time appts are always better bc after 3-4pm they are packed. They do sonograms in office.. even 3D/4D in office now too. They do all my tests and bloodwork there too. Dr Halpert was AMAZING during my labor with DS#1, he let me be my own decision maker.. never pushing me to do anything I didnt want to do. i did do a c section and at first was very upset, he was wonderful and talked me through the enitre thing. He performed both sons circumcisions as well! With my next pregnancy he even offered VBAC if I wanted to try it but I chose another c section :) ALl in all I love it there... I moved to lindenhurst and i STILL drive all the way to smithtown to see him!

Oh he delivers only at St Catherines.
