Walking and shoes question

DS has been taking steps for a while and last week he started, what I consider, really walking. 90% of his "travel" is on his 2 feet big boy style. I took him for his first pair of shoes this weekend. We put him down in the store to see how he liked them, and he got on all fours and crawled. OK, so I tried them at home. He walked a little in them, he mainly stared at them and tried to bite them, and crawled. I took them off and he started crawling again?? I never put him in shoes all summer, since hes been taking steps all summer, is he not used to shoes? Am I forcing him into shoes too early? Anyone has experience with this?

Re: Walking and shoes question

DS was a lot like this, he's super picky about what he will walk in.

I started his on See Kai Run Smaller brand, because they are closest to walking barefoot, and recommended by Pediatric Society. I guess the are like pedipeds but I find them to be softer. They have a rubber cirlce on the bottom for grip and my son did very well learning to walk in them.

I bought him more of the same till he started climbing. Once he started climbing I got him something with better grip on the sole, by a brand I found in a baby shoe store in Brooklyn Almarino.

We've tried stride rite with disastrous results. We've tried almost every brand of toddler sneaker, terrible for us. DS was tripping and so unhappy. The thick rubber soles are to blame.

I've had a hard time finding Almarino brand for boys, so someone recommended Naturino, but they are just okay, even though they are one the hottest European brands right now. They say "designed in Italy" and I think Italian made shoes are still the best in the world, for me, dh and for baby. I will buy cheapest and even second hand tshirts and pants, but shoes are factor of health, I do not cut corners on.
