wainscoting in nursery

I posted this on the home board too...
For those of you that have white wainscoting in your nursery, did you paint it white even though it is packaged white? Dh and I are trying to figure out if it needs to be painted.

My DH always paints molding and the like regardless of what color (woodgrain or primed white)..He would paint the white wainscoting.

Re: wainscoting in nursery

We have wainscotting in our bathroom and it didn't need to be painted at all. It has almost a shiny "new" appearance and personally I think the paint would take away from that (plus it is really easy to just spray and wipe clean)

We used the white in our bathroom and got it from LI Paneling. Home depot also carries the white but DH liked the quality of the one from LI Paneling better.

Re: wainscoting in nursery

The white you see is really a 'primer' ... I would repaint it with a better quality / better finish paint. It just looks better than what they give you.

This is our issue too. The wainscoting we bought also has a shiny white finish to it. Dh thought it would be easier to clean in the baby's room if he didn't paint it. I just don't know for sure. Our doors are painted white and so is our base moulding, so I almost think he should paint it.

Re: wainscoting in nursery

Since there are different shades of white (I remember that from wedding planning Chat Icon ) I would paint it the same white as the other white in the room so that it all matches.
The chair rail we bought was white already, but after hammering it in and all that, it needed to be painted again. And it looks much better in our shade of white than the original!

How exciting that you're working on the nursery!! I want to come see it when it's done!Chat Icon

Re: wainscoting in nursery

we had this in our old dining room, it wasnt the primed one it was finished in white with a glossy finish. We did not paint it and it was so easy to clean.

Re: wainscoting in nursery

Definitely paint it - I used a semi-gloss and it make it stand out so much more - I love it.

Re: wainscoting in nursery

It seems there are different choices of white ... wither primer of fully-finished. Take it in the room next to your molding and make a decision that way.
