WAHOOO AND FINALLY!!!!! we picked GODPARENTS!!!! and now how to tell them!
not sure if any of you recall my issues with choosing Godparents.
well, after speaking to our priest, dh and I finally came to a decision.
the priest being "strict" about the qualifications helped us out in the long run.
now...how to tell them?! how did YOU tell the godparents of your kiddos?
 
i feel so much better now, so I know the decision is the right one.

We knew who the godparents were before Michael was even born. We told them when they came to see us in the hospital.

Yeah I wouldn't ask them over the phone. (unless of course geography is the issue) I would take them to dinner or have them over and ask them. JMO

 I know who the godparents of #2 are and the child isn't even conceived yet!
The phone route is definitely too informal. Invite them over a delicious dinner, cooked with love by YOU!

Congratulations on the decision!
With my BIL who will be godfather to both my kids, DH told him over the phone.
With DD's godmother I told her a few years before I actually got pregnant (long story attached to that) in person.
This time, I know who I'm choosing for godmother and I'm DYING to tell her but I'm waiting. I don't know how to tell her either...

DH and I have three godchildren and no one did anything special to tell us. No one even asked us!  They just said "you are the godparents" LOL I don't think anything formal is needed. Our godparents already know.

How about writing them a card as to what a godparent means to me & why you picked them?
Like how I come up with these ideas AFTER I'm done having christenings & picking godparents?

Congratulations on making the decision.
I always knew my sister would be Godmother to my first born. LOL I don't even think I asked her. Sort of told her!
We chose my BIL and asked him as I was laying on the hospital bed being induced! LOL
As for DD we asked my brother & SIL in the NICU at NSUH. They were visiting and after we all took turns going in and spending time with DD we gathered outside the window of the NICU (the nurse raised the blinds so my nephew can see her from the hallway) and I said to them "How would you both like to be the Godparents of her"? It was great! They were so excited!

My sister pretty much knew she would be the GM. We ended up asking my brother to be the GF. There was a lot of drama involved in the decision--but in the end we he would be there for our DD and was the best choice for her. My DH called him up and asked him to "do the honor."

I'm asking my best friend who lives in Boston. I am going to make a little video on the flip video camera with DD and a sign asking her to be her godmother and I'll email it to her.

We asked them in the middle of a normal everyday conversation if they'd do us a favor.
"hey Steve, can you do us a favor."
"sure what"
"be JT's godfather"
it caught them off guard and made them smile. =)

we DS posed with a sign that
"Aunt M will you be my godmother?"
"Uncle T will you be my godfather?"
and gave them the photo in a frame
I've been to both homes since and both still have that photo

For Jason: I gave them each a frame that read "My Godmother" and "My Godfather" and gave it to them on Christmas.
For Molly: I gave my best friend a Mother's Day card telling her and Scott video taped asking his brother.
The frames were way better...they were both surprised and touched and have a real keepsake.
