W-T-F. my BM paint is cracking
Its throughout my hallway and living room. Its about 4 years old, the paint job that is. And in certain areas, its cracking. The best way I can describe it, is it looks like I put that crackle finish look on it. WTH, its the most expensive paint in the house and looks the worst. It is not in a high moisture area, but not dry either and I cant figure it out. I wouldve expected more from BM paint. Whereas my Behr and Valspar paints are holding up just fine. Grrrrr! Anyone have this happen?

we had that happen where we didn't do enough to remove the glue from the old wall paper. had we primed before using the BM paint, I'm convinced it wouldn't have happened. In some of the most severe spots, we sanded it down and then put two new coats of paint on. that fixed it, but it was an incredible pain in the neck.

I haven't noticed this after 2.5 years of our BM paint in the whole house.
Could there be a leak in between the walls? Are they outside walls?

Nope, they are interior walls and completely dry. Im so POd.

 Maybe go to a Benjamin Moore dealer and ask them for some help of why this might be happening. Sorry this is happening to you.

this happened in my old bedroom in my parents house. the bedroom was used by my grandparents and we think that they might have used extremely cheap paint in the pass or oil based. we never found out the correct reason for this.

yea i wanted to complain about my BM paint in my bedroom but i knew i would be repainting in a few more years when we knocked down the wall. So far i have to say I am very happy with Valspar and i do not think i would ever spend the money on BM again to have iffy results especially on new drywall.

Were the walls prepped (cleaned and then primed)?
What did you paint over (latex, oil based paint, directly on sheetrock)?
Was the paint given sufficient time to dry in between coats?
I've painted over a dozen rooms in my house (same room, multiple times) in the past 10 years with BM paint and never had a problem. I'm sure if you speak with a sales associate, they can give you some insight on whether it was bad paint or not.

See and the only room I painted with Valspar cracked in the corners....and DH gives me "I told you so" speech everytime we look at it. Every room where we have BM is perfect as the day we painted it. I think prep/primers has a lot to do with how it wears....

From this past storm we had leaks in our roof that traveled through the interior walls... maybe that's what happened and it dried? That just sounds so odd...

This happened to me and my exDH in the part of our home we rented out - the tenants kept the heat too high and it cracked the paint. They kept it around 80-85 degrees alllllll the time. In the winter we'd knock on their door and the guy was wearing shorts - and thats it! LOL Maybe it was too hot/dry?

We have an issue with BM paint also. DH says he will never use it again. We called BM and they said they have had some defective paint lots. They offered to come and inspect it and if it's defective, they will replace the paint. Of course, you still have to apply it or hire someone to apply it. But definitely call them to complain.
