Villa Roma-update

My parents were supposed to go this week, but my dad is sick. So my sister and I will be taking the kids this weekend since its already paid for. It looks fun for the kids, but I would like some first hand recommendations of things to do, where to eat, etc... We are using our timeshare so we're not on the meal plan, but we can pay for anything a la carte. It's also a Murder Mystery weekend, should we pay to participate? Is it worth it?

Update- my sister wound up being sick so I took my two boys and my 15 year of niece up for the weekend. We had a great time! We left right when the kids got home from school and were there by dinner time. We ate at Roman Garden, which is kind of like a diner. It was ok- not bad, not good. Then we hit the arcade. It wasn't great, but the kids had fun. Then they played for a bit in the indoor playground. Then we headed to our room. The timeshare units are definitely dated. But they are fairly spacious and clean. You can tell they've done small upgrades, like the flat screen TVs, but the overall feel is circa 1982 with the wall paper borders and fake granite. A nice thing was that they offered daily maid service, which most timeshares do not. Saturday was an action packed day. We did breakfast in the room and then headed out. They have this awesome room with like 10 different jumpy houses. The kids played in there for 2 hours! Then we did a quick lunch in the room of Mac n cheese and went back to the hotel. We did arts and crafts, watched/bet/won some money on turtle races, played in the indoor playground, had ice cream and played bingo, went to the outdoor playground, did sidewalk chalk, and then went to the indoor pool. Just like everything else, the pool area is somewhat dated, but well maintained. We went back to the room at almost 7:00 and brought in dinner from the Roman Garden again. After dinner and showers we went back to the bounce houses and finished up our night at a bonfire and made s'mores. We were disappointed that not much was going on on Sunday. We went out for breakfast, hit the arcade and indoor playroom, and then headed home. He kids had a great time and can't wait to go back. I think as long as you go in with realistic expectations, you can have a good time at Villa Roma.

thanks for the update - i went with my entire family (25 of us) 2 years ago
i thought it was a great place for a group with different ages...the kids have the arcade and things to entertain them or even go to camp. adults can golf, play tennis
everyone can swim and go horseback riding
i did find it was VERY outdated 2 years ago...i had hoped they did renovations but i guess not. we stay in the hotel part and the comforters are the old thick kind that most hotels no longer use, some of the rooms have the old tube tv's etc.
if they could update those things it would be a really great family vaca spot imo

Sundays are the check in check out day for timeshare so that's why they lack activities then... There wouldn't be much participation (believe me... I know how dead bingo is on a Sunday there). The bounce area is actually new... It used to be an indoor tennis court. My daughter had a blast in there this past summer.

As for food, you could have gone into town. Michaelangelos has good food and the Chinese take out is good as well. There used to be an awesome pizza place in town but has been closed up for the past 1 or 2 years. There is pecks market where you can buy groceries for cooking in the timeshare room.
