Vent - Alpine Pastry Shop

So as you ladies read on my shower thread, I had some cake drama on Saturday.

Reader's digest version of the event: Cake was supposed to arrive by 10:45-11am. It didn't show up until 2pm, only after we called the shop to ask where the cake was and they basically said "Oh sorry, we forgot to deliver it...it's been crazy here."




I spoke with the owner yesterday on the phone and let him know that I paid GOOD money for this cake and not knowing the status of it nearly ruined my entire day.

First he told me that there was no "set time" on the slip that it had to be there by a certain time, and they try and get cakes there within 3 hours. Yeah okay. I said there WAS a set time when I set up delivery I told the girl when the shower started and she assured me it would be there by that time. So if there was no set time, blame it on that girl for not putting it down.

Then he told me that when it comes to deliveries, particularly of specialty cakes, they do try and tell customers that THEY should call the bakery on the day of, to ensure the cake gets delivered. Are you farking kidding me?!?!?!?!? I need to REMIND YOU to make sure you deliver my cake? He said the normal delivery person didn't come in and they didn't have a truck, so it was a little crazy. I said that because of that, they should have been DILIGENT in making sure that all the deliveries were made that day or contacted customers. [Btw--no one ever told me to give a "reminder" call at all.]

In the end I told him that at the very least, he should refund me the $65 delivery charge. He refused and said that he had to pay people "out of his own pocket" as it was that day, and he just couldn't give me that money back at all. He offered me a cookie platter or 2 dozen pastries, or a break off a future cake. Do you think I want anything from you after this fiasco?

I'm very surprised at how all this turned out and while the cake itself was great and tasted amazing, the way they handled the entire situation has left the worst taste in my mouth and I am still royally p*ssed.

WOW!! I cannot believe that rather than apologize and offer you the refund for the delivery charge, he flat out argued with you!

I would sooo be writing a complaint to the bbb for that.. that enrages me!

I don't care how busy ANY business is, you do NOT use that as an excuse.. PERIOD!!

He definitely was apologetic on the phone, but kept making it out like "well you know these things happen...."

Yeah I'm sure they do, and when they DO happen you MAKE IT UP TO YOUR CUSTOMER!!!!!

I want to walk into the bakery and poop on them.

WOWZA.
That is outrageous, and posting about it here is the BEST revenge, he just lost way more than $65 imho.

I second the advice to post it on yelp, I use that site for every local vendor I'm considering using and I find the reviews very helpful!!!

Definitely put a complaint in on BBB, I hate when business owners have such carppy attitudes like that.

I would be p*ssed too!!

They did something similar to my friend for her son's 1st birthday party...it was actually a joint party with her daughter, who turned 3. So she ordered a Carnival Themed Cake for her son, and two dozen cupcakes for her daughter. They gave her a great price, and told her they would deliver it at X time on the day of the party.

The morning of the party I called her to see if she needed anything as I was on my way and she was all in a tizzy, getting in her car to go pick up the cake and cupcakes.

Apparently they called her that morning and told her they had no driver, so they weren't going to be able to deliver the cake, and she'd have to come from Holbrook to Smithtown to pick it up....for her party that day....

She was LIVID!

They should have given you the delivery fee back, or at least given you all the extra cookies and whatever they were gonna give the day of your shower when it finally got to you.

We had an issue with them for my sister's shower too.
They sent a cake that was HALF the size it was suppposed to be.
Then tried to blame us.
It was embarrasing.

IMO they SUCKKKKK!
