Re: Vent-
Its so scary when its your poor innocent child who cant tell you whats wrong. All we have is our gut. It is a bad season, do you have allergies in your family?
I would wait a couple days since he doesnt seem bothered, but if I didnt feel he was getting any better I would go back.

Re: Vent-
Yes- terrible allergies... but its just so hard to just assume- thats what it is...
Also- why would allergies only effect one eye?

Re: Vent-
First off for Ry and you. Both Roman and I have been sick off and on for weeks too. What I hate is when you call and then speak to another Dr. in the practice who tells you something completely different than your Dr. I would get another opinion just for peace of mind.

Re: Vent-
You don't seem happy with the practice you are with and I would do 2 things if I was in your shoes. 1) go to a different office and get a 2nd opinion and 2.) see an allergist for him. During certain times of the year my eyes might get watery and thats it or my sinus's will bother me. He might have developed an alleragy to something in your home like dust, that even the most minut about bothers him. It doesnt hurt to take him to see if he has any allergies. It also doesnt seem like your dr.'s office is taking your seriously and I feel that mothers always know best when it comes to their kids.

You should definitely consider seeing an allergist.

Re: Vent-
DD has severe airborne and food allergies... Her ENT/Allergist/Ped all agree that this is the reason that she has had a never ending cold and ear infections since she was 2 months old.
Right now the answer is tubes in the ears so that the fluid can drain... from there - I want her allergies treated.
I would see an allergist and ENT for 2nd and 3rd opinioins.

If you need a referral just ask your PED.

Re: Vent-
Let me start out by saying that I don't want to sound mean because I know how much you love your son, but, IMO you are overreacting. That is very common for first-time moms. While it is true, that your little one has had a serious of unfortunate illnesses that required a doctor's visit, it is, also, true that this is the time of year for colds. It doesn't matter if you go anywhere or not. The change of seasons can have that affect. It may be allergies and I would check that out. If he is active, eating and sleeping as usual, chances are nothing is seriously wrong. Some days will be worse than others. My grandson has had a cold off and on and congestion. Occasionally, he runs a fever that my daugher handles with Tylenol. I know not all babies are the same and react the same way, but, that is just the way this time of year can be.
As for your doctors, lying to them is the worst possible thing you can do. They base their diagnosis on what you say. However, if you bring your child to them for every cough and sniffle, they will begin to brush you off. It may sound cold, but, that is what will happen. You have every right to seek a second opinion or find new doctors if you are not satisfied with their level of service, but, you may never find the "right" doctors. If your son had pneumonia, you would know. This is just a bad cold and needs to run its course. It may take a long while for it to happen and, then, again, it may be over in no time at all. Keep an eye on him and don't go looking for anything that isn't there. Kids get sick. That's just a fact of life. Hang in there, you can do it. We all did and lived to tell the tale.

Re: Vent-
I think you said recently that Ryan was going to be starting to go to your daycare. It could just be from the kids passing stuff around.
eta: i just re-read your post and saw you don't take him to the store, etc. it could be that since he's not exposed to a lot of germs when he does catch something it's bad b/c his immune system isn't ready for it.

Re: Vent-
If they are giving him an antiobiotic, what more can they do? I know it stinks to have a sick kid, especially for that long, but it does happen and it will pass. It just does not feel like it right now. IMO you are not helping by lying to them about the fever, its only going to misguide them.

Re: Vent-
Have you been giving him antibiotics on and off for the past 2 months? Antibiotics only treat bacterial infections so if he has a viral infection then they won't help and can actually hurt him in the long run. The overprescribing over antibiotics in this country has created "supergerms" that don't respond to medication.

Re: Vent-
Not sure if this will make you feel any better, but since we went away back in September Michael has been funny - not sleeping right, then a cold, then no cold, still not sleeping, then a cold again, then a cough - it took him almost two whole months to feel himself again - then he had a cold again with a cough that lasted a FULL two weeks - I took him to the doctor ONCE that whole time because I just knew it was a cold, but wasn't sure if there was something "hiding" - sure enough he was clear and wasn't put on any antibiotics. I do feel that sometimes kids need antibiotics if it's been ongoing and it needs a push to get out, but if your doc's office (that you are very comfortable with) tells you it's just a cold, I'm one to trust a doctor. Allergies are another story - I do think that it can affect one eye - most people have a lazy eye - my son has a lazy eye - if he's sick or tired the one eye always droops down lower than the other. I have terrible seasonal allergies and it seems my son suffers from them a bit too.
Also, maybe your son is teething - I'm not sure how old he is, but when my son's first molars and eye teeth were coming it, it was HORRIBLE!
I hope he's better soon!
